I sent my iphone to a company I found on the internet who said they could repair it within 24 hrs and have it back to me in another 24hrs, so I sent it special delivery. On my account page they sent me a message saying it would cost £100 in total. I asked them to expalain the required repairs, but got no reply, I then told them to go ahead with the repair but got no reply. They have a live chat option on their site so I spoke on several occations to different people who agreed it wasnt good business to not contact me. I said their site hadnt given me the invioce to pay the £100 and they said the supervisor needs to do it, this happened several times, in the end I said if its not done by 8pm just send it back.

Then I got the invoice so I paid it by paypal.

Now they are not answering my emails, direct contact on their site or the live chat option and the phone number they give always goes to answerphone.

What are my chances of getting my phone back?

All you do is write to them (Recorded Delivery) require the return of your property within 7 days. Failure to do so will mean you will raise a small claim for the cost of a replacement (this will not be the cost of a new replacement)

I have to say, the warning signs were there from the start....!

Thanks Buzby, I know what you mean about the warning signs!

They have actually emailed me today saying that it has had to go to specialist center for the part which I can understand, and I have already written to them giving them 7 days so will see what happens.

I have also contacted my network and told them whats happened and they have blocked the handset, they also said it hasnt been used since the date I sent it for repair so fingers crossed.

I don't think you have a hope in hell of it being returned. The website is completely outside all the consumer regulation on e-commerce.

  • No landline telephone number (0800 doesn't count)
  • No email address (webforms are not allowed)
  • No geographic company address (Even PO Boxes not allowed)
  • No company registration number
  • No VAT number (if they own one)

How did you get the address to send it to? I have just been through the process up to logging into Paypal and no address has been shown.

The following must also be show on the site:

YEW TREE DIGITAL LIMITED

YEW TREE HOUSE

FALKENHAM

IPSWICH

SUFFOLK

UNITED KINGDOM

IP10 0QT

Company No. 06813383

It should also say Yew Tree Digital Ltd trading as iphone repairs.

Is that the same address you sent your phone?

Also as a matter of interest, no company accounts have been filed and are shown as 'overdue'.

Ive had something happen overnight..........

Ive had an email off them saying........."Further to your letter today we have refunded your payment and returned your device to you.

Kind regards,

iPhone Repairs"

Having checked paypal, they have indeed refunded the money, so will just wait and see if the phone turns up!

The address you found is the one I sent it to and was on their site.

Many thanks for your comments. I am Nicholas Shaw from iPhone Repairs. We have taken your comments on board and are currently restructuring the company to continue to offer our customers a fantastic service at a great price. Unfortunately there have been failings with our business that are unacceptable like a lack of communication. From our end we have now implemented a host of new technology to assist with keeping our customers informed of their repair at every step of the way. We have also hired more members to our close knit team. It will take a few weeks to get these new team members up to speed but till then we will all be working as hard as we can to assist our customers.

98% of orders are completed within our 24 hour turnaround however sometimes things do go wrong and customer with multiple repairs will take longer especially if these are fault finding cases. Most of our customers use our feedback system which is posted on our website and provided by ekomi.com. and as you can see most of these are positive with a few grumbles about communication. This is the method of feedback that we promote as it allows us to automatically display the feedback untouched on our site and also gives our customers a clear way of rating our service. However a number of people appear to be searching for our company and find this site. They then post negative reviews and unfortunately this site appears to just host these feedbacks with our other customers still posting to the ekomi service. Hopefully this will give you a better insight into the reason behind the negative comments that are posted here.

I hope that you will understand that we are learning from our past mistakes and striving to improve the service that we offer to current and future customers.

Kind regards,

Nick Shaw

WOW......

There was more information in that post than I got in two weeks.

Nothing posted on this site was meant to be taken as a review of your company and Im sure you have lots of happy customers, although I was unable to post a review of you on the ekomi site you mentioned, just as well really, but its hardly a realistic apraisil if you only publish positive comments.

It got so bad that I had spoken to Trading Standards, this is not what I expected so was quite disappointed, I was worried that I had had my phone stolen, and was taking advice on how to recover it, so can only speak from a personal point of view.

I run a business and can assure you that if a customer contacted me, they would get a prompt response, but your company had my expensive piece of hardware, and never replied to anything!! Emails, telephone calls, contact on the website, nothing. I dont understand why you would invest in "new technology" when you cant answer a phone or reply to an email,

I understand you coming on here to try and limit the damage if you are showing up in search engines in a negative light, but whos fault is that? And it could have been avoided by simply answering any one of the numerous emails you were sent.

You are suprised I thought '[problem]'?

Incidently, about the repair you quoted me £100 for, I got the unit repaired locally, the cost, £0.

Turns out it was a bent pin behind the screen!

Well sorry, but I wouldnt trust my iphone with you after the way you treat previous customer and mine has a fault, but I would rather put up with it than risk to above company. I couldnt afford to replace it.

Are your company accounts up to date now, thats a concern to anyone passing such expensive kit to a company. Late with accounts would worry me they might go under.

My opinion only of course, but I do love my iphone even though mine was faulty too. I personally would only send a phone to repair through the provider it was bought from, they to keep your custom would I am sure show you how to liase with a manufacturer.

If you want to have a go there's one Hell of a lot of leverage available. Further to a previous comment about missing information, that would be a strict liability criminal offence under the The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

c.f. Section 6.(3)(b) according to which a misleading omission is the want of

any information requirement which applies in relation to a commercial communication as a result of a Community obligation.

Visiting is good, and if there's no satisfaction, you need to WRITE giving 21 daysa to return your phone and return any money pais for the service (if the work was not done). If this doesn't work, then a Moneyclaim for the replacement cost of the same model (as a refurb, not new).

I have mailed you and as with your compnay i have had no joy, what is happening with my phone? you have had it now for nearly 4 weeks, why are you or your company not responding to my mails, why does your phone never get answered, why does your online chat now ignore my messages, what is goin on? you need to return my phone now, the phone has been blocked for makin calls, and paypal have been instructed to mail you and if they have no reply by the 9th july the £104 will be returned to me, an i will be seekin further advice on recovering my phone which will be classed as stolen by your company

At a rough guess, this is a company that's bitten of much more than it knows how to chew, slick enough with easy words (which are cheap enough) but otherwise out of its depth and struggling, which is a shame.

That's the sort of company with nothing in the bank to pay the costs of an action when it comes to the crunch, because of the bankruptcy that also ensued.

Sure enough, it is not going to thrive on the strength of a thread like this.
