Now I like that idea. I might even be willing to put it together if I can get some support and a few people to write some articles.

Regards.

Fred

Before you criticise another man you should first walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you criticise him, you'll be a mile away and he won't have any shoes on.

Don't get me confused with somebody knowledgeable by all those green blobs. I got most of them by making people laugh.

I would contribute to that.

I came to CAG via the "dodgy parking ticket [problem]" route but using the debt collection part I have "rescued" quite a few friends who were facing some questionable practices by the DCAs.

So I would be happy to make sure others get that benefit. And to wind up the useless balloons who run these things...

I keep forgetting that the CAG is about a lot more than DCAs, banks and dodgy agreements. I've never visited this bit, probably because I've never received a parking ticket. Lucky me I suppose.

I too have not visited other parts of cag, as debt collection etc has become my forte thro necessity, but you can only be squeezed until the pips squeak, after that they are trying to get blood from a stone.

On the point about the credit today website, if these idiots had any sense at all, this material would be posted on a secure intranet, so not available in the public domain

As far as "misleading advice coming from websites"(if they are talking about us) are concerned,

These are views coming from members (their customers), they should try to understand, the advice here is coming from their customers experience of the banks/dcas etc.

Lets get one thing clear Herr Obermier and his cronys are their purely to make money out of peoples misfortune, and the greedy bankers in america who ultimately have caused all this pain and suffering.

Just one final thought, if this credit crunch really starts to bite (and i have lived thro a couple) a lot of these DCAs are going to go bust, and im going to laugh my socks off:D

Please note i have no legal training any advice i give comes from my own experience and from what i have learned on this site

Like all bullies, they think they are invincible. I also suspect that they feel that they have to keep churning out this self-righteous drivel because they realise that few people will have much respect for their industry. There is, too, a distinctly narcissistic streak amongst the debt collection industry - they never miss an opportunity for smug 'what a clever boy I am' moment.

They are obviously inspired by Josef Goebbels, who said:

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

and:

The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over

The article I posted came from their magazine which I've been receiving for 3 months now - I didn't ask for it, but I think I got it because I've got a registered business address. I've read through it today and in some ways it's quite interesting. You'd think they would be rubbing their hands with glee at the current situation but actually they aren't because it seems like they are simply not geared up to cope. Shame.

I got a copy of their magazine in the post the other day, not sure how or why, but it was one of the most entertaining things I've read in a long time - not for any reason they would appreciate though!!

Here's a quote from CTEditor from last year:

Re: DEBT Collection Agency of the YEAR Awards Dear all.

I understand the various concerns expressed over the Credit Today 'debt collector of the year awards' but have to put the other side forward.

The sincerest aim of the awards is to investigate and reward firms who are truly customer-centric, demand the highest quality people skills from their often call-centre-based staff and that maintain high levels of staff training.

By running an awards scheme like this, we are addressing the issues connected with debt, not seeking to congratulate the undeserving. The issues related to debt and how this is dealt with by the industry are hugely important and ones we address constantly in Credit Today magazine. We don't fall down on the side of the creditors, we investigate the issues and have taken the industry - where it is deserved - to task over shoddy processes and bad treatment of consumers.

We are seeking out professional excellence and applying the same ethics we apply to our magazine coverage to the judging of these awards.

As debt levels have spiralled in the last few years, the debt collection sector has undergone massive growth too, which is another reason for introducing the awards.

Many debt collectors are call-centre staff, doing a difficult job at the debt coalface. We gather the quality of advice and treament people in debt receive in this country varies hugely and this is an issue we want to flag by rewarding those who do a professional job, no matter how personal and difficult debt resolution can sometimes be.

CTEditor only posted once. Quite a few CAGgers registered to join their (Credit Today) website as a result ;) and join the 'lively debate' on their forum, but it's a sorry thing really. They don't want to hear the truth about the 'industry' they serve or what those 'professionals' on the 'coal face' (GAH!) are really like.

They won't change, because it's obvious who pays for the magazine. They won't 'bite the hand that feeds'.

They boast that their website has many visitors daily - I wonder if they've checked the statistics since last year? I suspect that the increase has been from people, empowered by websites like CAG, who are curious about the relationship between DCAs and 'credit professionals'. DCAs are slippery creatures indeed.

Has anyone thought of 'What Credit Today?' as a title for the newsletters? It's topical, after all... ;):D

We will not be intimidated.

'The pen is mightier than the sword'.

Petition to Outlaw Debt Sale and Purchase

- can't read/post much as eye strain's v.bad.

VIVA CAG!!! :)

They seem to be under the misapprehension that if you say something enough times - it must be true.

"OK Mr Bassett, you can't afford to pay. I understand, I really do. Shall we just agree that you will pay 1p per month for now and maybe we could consider upping that to 2p per month if your circumstances improve if that's OK with you. I'm very sorry to have troubled you Sir and would like to take this opportunity to wish you health, happiness and prosperity for the future."

Nah.

Same ethics? Absolutely. Ever see an award winner from a company that doesn't advertise in the magazine?

It's quite clear that the whole thing is based on a lie. The bottom line is collections. These idiots have taken the collective decision that the only way to achieve this is to lie, threaten and bully. There is no such thing in this country as "ethical" debt collection. There's the irony. If they were ethical, decent and honest they might actually get somewhere and this site probably wouldn't exist.

Both Credit Today and the CSA are thinly-veiled attempts to decorate the debt collection industry with a veneer of respectability.

The magazine is like many other niche trade journals; it exists on advertising revenue. The publishers are not going to bite the hand that feeds them. The CSA, on the other hand, is a far more cynical setup, pretending that they provide a necessary service (and pretending to 'regulate' members), whilst in fact the industry is wholly parasitical and actually only exists to generate income for shareholders, many of them overseas.

I'd call them....

The uneducated, chasing the unenforcable.

Pondscum Today

What CCA?

Their motto...

"If we can't profit from the credit crunch...nobody should."

"Rules are made to be broken."

And one advert I would like to see in their waste of a rain forest rag mag.....

I should be in for a crudit today award.

For the most unlikely person to pay a DCA who has a five figure sum of unenforceable debts. :p

And another award for the most truthful DCA promotional video.

And a good kicking from the others for spilling the beans on them. :D
