Italy thinks there could have been a major data breach.

On a serious note HB, of course, it's bloody outrageous.

I mean, they might deny it, but 'they would, wouldn't they' springs to mind.

I have a feeling the Italian police are not so easily fobbed off as the Met would be.

In fact, it's hard to imagine the Met finding any due cause to investigate something like that at all, given their track record of investigating anything in the public interest in recent years .

The fines are alleged to have been issued illegally because since Brexit, national laws allow the UK to access the personal data of EU citizens only for criminal offences, and breaching Ulez rules is a civil contravention.

EPC are the crooks here, i cant say how i know, but i bet your bottom dollar it transpire that £B's (not £M's) were blindly paid to them by people getting EPC letters and TfL never saw a penny.

TfL might have given them cover by allowing EPC to operate on their behalf, but the above headline is only half the story. watch carefully.

there is a very very big bang coming.

I hope so, dx.

What about, in the last paragraph of the article:

TfL, which speaks on behalf of Euro Parking, has claimed it stopped requesting Belgian driver details for Ulez and Lez enforcement last September.

Why would TfL speak on behalf of EPC?

because they employed them to chase UK fines, that's TfL's sole involvement. now if data to fine drivers in the UK was attained illegally then that's that box nicely closed for TfL. What they don't realise yet is how big this issue is across the whole of europe with every countries gov't depts that use EPC.
