I think we need more information please. Tell us about your friend's position, is she unemployed, does she have a partner and so on.

 

Why was child benefit stopped?

Yes, unemployed claiming income suport only at the moment. Was claiming child tax credit up until 12 weeks ago.

 

This morning my friend received a letter from HMRC stating she owes them £1962.00 for child tax credit where she's been overpaid. I would like to ask on her behalf. Her child received the aapprenticeship through her college. Is this not classed as full time education. Her daughter still gets an assessor every week come and check her coursework she has to do.

Here are details of apprenticeships that are approved for tax credit purposes:

 

Approved training should be unpaid and can include:

 

- Access to Apprenticeships in England

- Foundation Apprenticeships or Traineeships in Wales

- Employability Fund programmes or Get Ready for Work (if started before 1 April 2013) in Scotland

- Training for Success, Pathways to Success or Collaboration and Innovation Programme in Northern Ireland

 

Courses that are part of a job contract are not approved.
