Ok FIL works for a car parts supplier

Has done for several years

Usually they do a stock take every couple of months which runs from the end of the day until usually around midnight, work provides food and all time was paid at time and a half

However the manager changed recently FIL didn't do the last stock take due to family commitments however the people that did complained they didn't get the extra pay, the manager then responded saying he had changed it and only time off in leu would be given

Obviously people aren't happy to the point where the entire depot has now refused to do the stock take, the manager upped the offer to doubling the amount of time off but as this is a very low paid job people are still refusing

Obviously the workers can state customs and practice however how hard is this to push FIL is worried that they are going to be made to work this time with threats of jobs lost etc...

Any advice?

usual questions, what does his contract say? Cannot advise without this.

are they members of a union?

If contract says "9 - 5pm with an hour for lunch" then he can just work his hours

I'd expect the employer to get difficult after that but it's his choice and right
