Hi there

I have recently taken out a car insurance policy with swift and am paying by direct debits

they did not receive proof on my no claims discount unbeknown to me

My payments should have been £35 per month

the last payment they have taken was £102 due to them not receiving my NCD

and have charged me a administration fee of £20

they tried to take from my account using my credit card details ……

I have rung them and they have said my future monthly payments will be reduced as they have taken £102 from my account

but the £20 administration fee must still be paid

Can they do this ?

They have threatened to cancel my insurance unless I pay the £20 but to be honest

I’m thinking of canceling it anyway and going elsewhere if they have done wrong

IMO I would vote with my feet, the DD guarantee can be used here to reclaim what they took out of your account if they didn't inform you of the change in amount they were going to take.

If they are attempting to bribe you by saying that you have to pay the £20 fee or they will cancel your insurance, I would be informing the OFT&TS of this attempt of extortion, the FOS might also want to know....http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

You should also exhaust their own complaints procedure,

Thanks BB

No defiantly didn’t inform me what or how much they were going to take ………but can they actually take someone’s credit card details and attempt to put another payment through?? Remember this payment had nothing to do with a DD payment

no they cant do it

cheeky beggars!

extortion in the least

if they did not write to you saying they were taking the £102, then claim that back under the DD guarantee via your bank

then go elsewhere.

I think it was an unauthorised cc payment and not the DD,

You need to get in touch with your bank and request a chargeback as you did not authorise this payment
