Hi all, I had a letter from this just over a week ago, to do with a debt I owe BT, So I fired off the

I DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY DEBT TO YOUR COMPANY

OR ANY COMPANY YOUR PURPORT TO REPRESENT

I did that via email as they have an email. addy on the letter.

Today I got this reply, Surely it should be them confirming I owe it, not for me to prove I do not.

Is there another letter i need to send off?

Account Reference: ******

Dear Mr ************

Thank you for your recent correspondence.

We have been instructed by our client, BT (British Telecom) to recover the outstanding balance of £***.*3 which relates to services at the supply address $$$, *&*&^*&*& etc ********, during billing period 05/10/2009 to 23/05/2010.

If you believe this amount is not owed please forward any documents showing that your account with our client was cancelled and closed with no outstanding balance or that you account is up to date with no arrears.

This would enable us to query this matter directly with our client.

Please forward these documents at your earliest convenience. Please send copies only as we are unable to return original documents.

We advise you to call us on the Advantis Priority Telephone Line 0845 402 2430, where our team of specialist account managers are waiting to discuss your account further.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I sent the letter as I thought this was a bill from over 6 years ago, which i have had chasing me for the last few months.

Pretty sure the amount they are asking is wrong as well

Correct it is for them to prove that you owe this, NOT for you to disprove it.

Keep a diary of events from now on, also keep all of their missives including envelopes, not the date you received them.

Make a complaint to the OFT&TS via http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/contact

I wouldn't send them anything in reply to that pathetic letter, give a dog a bone and it will keep coming back.

Ignore them, see if they respond and what with, you could just be on a phishing list.

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!
