The UK voting system does not elect individuals to become prime minister.

 

In 2005 the Labour Party had the largest majority in the election and their party leader, Mr Blair, thus became prime minister for a third term.

 

Mr Blair resigned mid-term and Mr Brown became Labour leader unopposed due to so many nominations for him from his party and his only rival backed out.

 

As Labour were also the governing party Mr Brown also became prime minister.

 

Quite legitimate and constitutional and hardly the fault of Mr Brown.

 

He already had a mandate to govern as his party were already in power.

 

John Major did the same thing but the tories rarely mention this fact.

This is quite true of course but you have to consider why people vote in the way that they do. There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the main factor in Labour winning 3 elections on the trot was Tony Blair. He was very popular. God knows why, the slimy git, but he was. Would Labour have won with Gordon Brown in charge? Well we've just got the answer to that haven't we?

No, we have just had the answer to whether they would vote for him NOW. You don't know, any more than I do, whether they would have before, and we'll never know. Since he was the Chancellor, I can not help feeling that people must have known that fact when they were voting for Labour en masse at the last 3 elections and it didn't really bother them, quite the contrary. But of course that would mean admitting that Labour were actually voted in because they were doing a good job, something I think you'll never be able to accept. ;-)

As Chancellor he sold our gold at knock-down prices, wrecked the pensions industry and raised taxes through the roof.

 

As Prime Minister he reneged on his promise to hold a referendum on the EU treaty, lied to the enquiry he set up about Iraq and has hardly spoken a truthful word throughout the election campaign.

 

Throughout all of this, he colluded over the illegal invasion of Iraq and to make matters worse, starved our troops of the necessary resources. The man is a disgrace and a national embarrassment - look at the way he signed the EU treaty (the one he promised a referendum over). What a cringe worthy moment that was. On top of that, he still has no intention of addressing the 'West Lothian' question - the democratic imbalance between Scotland and England/Wales.

 

I can't wait to see him go.

He probably does, but so far it's not affected the whole country. Brown's lie over the EU Constitution was the biggest act of political treachery that I can ever remember. For that alone he deserves to go. in my view.

"That’s already got a name" said the consultant. "It’s called `Flying Scotsman´."

"I suppose it might be considered," said the NRM consultant. "After all the LNER renamed a number of their locomotives after directors of the company, and even renamed one of them Dwight D Eisenhower."
