Hi All

I have been trying to claim compensation through AirFrance as they have lost my luggage.

They first asked for a list of items in my suitcase and prices which in total cam to approx £737.

Today i received a letter stating as you have been unable to provide receipts of your luggage and the contents, the compensationm has been worked out within the limits of article 22 in the Montreal Convention.

So as a gesture of goodwill we will credit your bank account with £358.

Items in my luggage were a lot more to replace than the money they have given me. Is it right that they lose my suitcase then i suffer.

Please someone help, just does not seem right, like who keeps all receipts for all items that they take away.

Or should i write a letter demanding more money from them.

Anyone any ideas of a letter/law

Thanks

Will move your thread to General consumer issues.

KLM their partners are more famous for losing baggage I dont know anyone who has flown with them a few times who has not had this problem (including myself)

Afraid it is. Any compensation for lost baggage is coverd by the Warsaw Convention and is based not on the contents, but the WEIGHT of the actual suitcase contents lost.

It is a sad fact, that a suitcase of bricks will be worth considerably more than a few designer outfits, but that's the way it has always operated - your travel insurance should take up any other slack in this regard.

Well it will not cost you anything to try (except a stamp)

But as Buzby says they have fulfilled their obligations.

As Martin notes in his link, Montreal did provide enhancements to the original Warsaw arrangements, but I was checking some T&Cs and discoverd some airlines still only work under the Warsaw rules, but in either case, it will be a complex struggle to get the correct compensation.

Best them and us scenarion was when Mrs Beckhams luxury bag didn't appear on the carousel when she arrived in the US. BA made a full commitment to restitution without question. If you were travelling in cattle class on the same flight, I think you know what you would have been offered.
