If the problem is that Limewire isn't running due to the latest Java update go to the website and you will find the answer.

 

Contrary to the post above from honey5 provided you don't download the zip files you should be okay - I've been using Limewire for about five years now and only had problems when Java updated its software. I have very good firewall precautions in place.

And of course it is presumed that you are not using Limewire for copyright infringement (illegal downloads). There is now, I believe, a website that allows you to download tracks legally and free of charge, as it is paid for b advertising and sponsorship.

I used it to download talking books, but now I can get most of what I want from Librivox or Project Guttenberg I don't bother. I don't download music much (if at all).

 

honey5 - you're entitled to your opinion, much the same as I am entitled to my opinion that IE7 and Outlook are the pits.... I use Firefox and Mozilla instead.

theres not alot of info in the original post, is it connection issues? isp (on your back?) viruses etc?

aviod public torrent sites and other p2p applications like limewire/e mule etc, also make sure you've got DHT disabled in your torrent client if.... thats what you use to dl, or you may have a whole drive or directory set for sharing that could be the cause if thats where the problems are related

thanks honey the problem is that i have brought the pro version but was unable to download it .have been in touch with customers services by email and keep on haveing the same reply asking for the details i recived by email off limewire ,i never got any all i have is my order no and the time i brought it but every time is reply is the same i have had 8 emails of them i have replyed to every one but i am getting no where has anyone got a phone number so i can speak to them , i have even given them the code off my creidt card but still the same reply help

Why didnt you use limewire standard to download limewire pro ??? (for evaluation purposes only of course) or if as you say you have bought it ...that makes it ok

 

I do not condone downloading of copyrighted material

Using Limewire to download Limewire pro IS breaching copyright (and probably every other intellectual property rule there is.

 

As much as people may hate paying X amount to buy music or programs, it does not justify the theft of such material by illegally downloading it. Obviously, P2P can have legitimate uses, but I suspect many do no use it for such.

I hate limewire. I don't know how it happened but I was using it quite regularly and in the 'incomplete' file folder I found loads of porn, which I swear I did NOT download and no one else has access to my laptop.

I used to use Limewire frequently......and I can tell you that the only way something can get into your incomplete folder is if a download has started. there are only a couple of explanations..

 

1 you have started a download of a movie file, and then stopped it and deleted it without viewing it (quite often people find it funny to rename porn files to some innocent title)

 

2 you or someone else has been downloading it.....if not you then Someone MUST have had access to your 'puter. I know you will say but they cant...It must have happened somehow.

 

best thing to do is to password your account. or delete limewire if you dont use it that much

 

try one of the torrent clients....bitlord is good or azureus. the advantage here is that "most" of the files have been checked for virus's and stuff.........I did say "most". make sure your antivirus is up to date.

I understand form complaints that people put some kind of spam on these things. Files come up with the name searched for, but the actual file is not what it appears. Another good reason why the damned thing should be banned or properly licensed. And I do hope that people on here using Limewire are doing so for legal and legitimate reasons....

I recommend a program called Shareaza for file sharing (legally, of course). It is compatible with Limewire, Gnutella (1+2), e-donkey, Morpheus, Gnucleus, Bearshare and others. Its free and theres no adware.

 

As with all file sharing programs, you do have to be careful when choosing what to download, but I have not had any problems over the last 3 years or so.

Sorry - very naive on these things - what's the problem with Qtrax? I heard about it in the news the other day and people seemed to be positive about it. From what I can make out its not a P2P system but works much in the same was as does with say HMVs download or Itunes shop (store) - are we on about the same one?

 

On subject of Naive (totally off topic) - ever noticed that it is Evian spelled backwards? Think the French are having us on....

Ah - is that really so bad? I mean if you have antispyware etc and aren't particularly fussed about some corporation thinking it can farm you, sorry, offer specially selected offers it thinks are suitable, then would it still be a bad thing?
