Idr/J&P Emirates NBD - credit card in Dubai

Recommended Posts

@EvaHague have you heard anything else from JP?
I have had the same situation. Chased by IDR and now letters from J&P saying I owe the money in 7 days and they gave me the banks IBAN numbers to pay.
I emailed the bank with my address and offer or monthly repayments and waiting to hear back.

When you say nothing?

Do you mean no court action etc?
does it make a difference if I have no assets like a car or mortgage etc? and a tiny bit of savings which I’m living on since being made redundant last August and that runs out next month.

One thing I do worry is the house is in my wife’s name and they brought it before we got married and I didn’t out anything towards deposit.

Could they come after that?

@Ex expat3

nope I’ve not heard since!

I’ve sent a letter to NBD advising them of my address change and also like you’ve said an offer to what I can pay monthly .. still yet to hear from there!

also I don’t think it would affect you with the house being in your wife’s name, since it’s hers that’s her asset

No need to respond to either of them. J and P are all bark no bite.

They sent me pre action protocol papers which I ignored.

a few weeks later the standard emails returned before disappearing altogether.

They will search your name on the land register.

if your name is on it then you probably head a little north on the list of people who they would want to chase.

If it doesn't then they wont.

therefore its your wife's name they will never know or bother.

its not about a mortgage or no mortgage.

logic dictates that as they want to make money then they go after people with an asset they can identify and then apply their underhand tactics to put a charge on it or have you over a barrel to pay off the debt.

obviously its not automatic as there are so many people in this situation.

I think it’s wild anyone can just search your name and find out where you live via land registry etc

not totally correct....

any DCA in the UK that are licenced via the FCA register can search credit files and find basic info about a person like address etc, basic credit rating/debts/judgements etc.

ANYONE can use Land registry to search an ADDRESS to get a copy of it's deeds. there is no name search.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

I’ve been ignoring for years.

Last year they threatened to issue a court order.

I ignored and the letters have started again.

I believe (and hope) they have no leg to stand on and the letters will just keep coming forever in hope that people will pay up. Just ignore and get on with your life x

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone had any updates?

I had another email from J&P end of last week saying contact us please.

And I’ve not heard back from the bank.

But J&P said contact the bank and they will let you know why we are contacting you??

I took out a credit card in Dubai while working there and left in 2016 and came back to the U.K. after being made redundant.

I paid off the card for a few months until I had ran out of money.

When I went into the branch to discuss payment for plans they said if I didn’t pay it all off soon there would be a police case against me

- I started to get texts from the bank (which I still have) saying a cheque is needed or the police will be involved so I left the UAE.

I have had letters from IDRWW and IDR legal and J&P now for the last year or so and I’ve ignored all.

I emailed the bank and said here are my circumstances and this is what I can afford

- I have no assets etc and currently not in work and this is my small disposable income.

they have rejected it and also copied in J&P to the email but said I can start to make partial payments and here are the details.

At a loss of what i am to do as it seems negotiations with the bank will be with J&P anyway now?

Unless you are returning there? Ignore them.

Stop talking to them via email too, bounce all their emails back as junk/spam and any text messages they send forward them to 7726 (SPAM) on your mobile phone.

If they ring, hang up.

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!

why are you at a loss?

without sounding rude people like you are giving them easy money and keeping them going...

.they are pestering everybody you simply dont need to answer?

Imagine their really mean emails are the same as all the other junk that turns up in your inbox but is totally inconsequential.

Then move on.

dont give little bits of money as all they want is to have you on a string and at some point you will be their very first target as you are so easy.

Just read this and I just want to clarify im not being rude to you I just want to tell you to stop worrying and your talking to them is exactly what they want and putting you in the firing line. they want low hanging fruit

I don’t think you are being rude - I hear what you are saying.

i meant that it just feels impossible to deal with the bank directly which is what a lot of advice have said now that NBD copied in the person from J&P.
I do not have any intention of dealing with J&P or IDR as there is nothing for them to take anyway.

for want of clarity for future readers , you MUST ensure you always update the bank in WRITING not by email/phone/chat/txt of your correct and current address.

i have done that - via email too a while back.
I would of course rather pay the bank what what I can afford rather than have this hanging over my head, plus if I’m paying the bank back directly via transfer etc in AED when the exchange rate changes etc I could be paying back different amounts each month - so how would a U.K. court even enforce that?
