I purchased a new standalone Bush  Freezer from Argos 3 years ago.

It has now stopped working , seems it needs re-gassing.

Now, it only cost me £130 and warranty was usual 1yr  , but i would have expected it to be trouble free longer than that  ?

I guess i don't really have strong case for Argos doing a free repair or a replacement ?

It certainly does seem on the short side. Even though it was very cheap I would have expected between 6 and 10 years.
If it is re-gassing, how much would that cost to get done?

Yeh ,  never had freezer issues before (my fridge freezer is over 20 yrs old and has never needed regassing)

Couple of people have said lucky  if i can  get it under £50 -otherwise  not worth it.

I kinda  have to prove to Argos under Sale of Goods Act  that 3 yrs of use is  not reasonable

yea £50 seems a low offer for only 3yrs of ownership under the normal commensurate use calcs we see? are they offering to do that?

I don't think you stand a chance under section 75. The complications really aren't worth it anyway for this kind of value.

You bought the freezer very cheaply – but I expect that that wasn't necessarily a function of quality. It is probably a function of the size of the freezer as well as it is probably a small one.

Have you actually had a quote for fixing it? That would be a necessary first step.

After getting a quote for fixing it, you would then have to deduct a proportion of that sum to represent the three years of use which you have had for it.

So if the reasonable life expectation of the freezer is 10 years, then you have had 30% use of it. If the cost of fixing it is 60 quid then you would have to deduct 30% of that and so you might expect to be able to recover 40 quid but it will be a struggle.

S75 only covers 120 days.

Whilst the item should last longer -it will be up to me  to prove it officially.

I suspect what Google/forums  say in terms of longevity /reliability  would not be sufficient  ?

and  i would need  a paid engineers report ? ,

which makes it all uneconomic.

there is no limit on section 75 other than the statute of limitations 6yrs.

you are looking at chargeback thats not section 75.
