I know. I've never understood why flood water or excess rainwater can't be harvested in some way rather than just go down drains and out to sea or wherever.

Also, this week I found myself agreeing with George Eustice which could be a first, on why there isn't a national grid for water for regions with surplus water to send it to other regions with problems. I freely admit I don't know how it could be done, although I've seen the canal system mentioned in the past, but it has to be worth considering.

Canals of Mars ...

We'll be seeing it all again shortly if the brief flash downpours hit Southern England

There wont be that much rain, but it wont take much given the hard packed dry earth, it will all just evaporate at first, then run off in brief flash floods.

Then almost immediately bone dry again.

They are doing some work in the areas of piping water from wetter places to Tunbridge wells and surrounding ..

But consider that the vast majority of modern house building seems to be tiny slabbed over plots with no water absorption capabilities - hence massive runnoff build-ups in even small downpours.

You'd think it would be more efficient to routs excess water from local rivers into local aquifers which are apparently under major strain

but I haven't investigated that at all

- but we'd just be filling them up with poo encrusted water from the water (protect our dividends) debt mountain companies wouldn't we

- - - mind you isnt that a bonus for farming use?

then again, if fracking gets gets the go ahead theres no point as they will be poisoned

... ah but fracking wont be allowed around Tunbridge Wells will it .. so ...

Lots of angles to thing about.

Have to start referring to it as the middle eastern-lands

It has been almost as hot as a stint i spent in the middle east on a power project 25 years ago

Not quite as dry - yet, but the high 30's approached it, and the sheer harshness of the sun felt very similar

Dread to think what its like in the middle east now, I know in parts of Australia the situation has been dire, even for those familiar with what used to be called extremes.

Dunno what you are all experiencing, but we've had a few hours of 'normal summer steady drizzle

,, exactly what is needed at this stage

Enough to dampen everything and soak in without flash floods

BUT

Keep an eye on this. There are two prediction models for Sols sunspot/output, and the older one was somewhat lacking

The new one (already linked) is predicting something very different and very dangerous to us, and the data so far is supporting the new prediction model.

Its a simple fact that If we had moved quicker to a zero carbon renewable energy hydrogen economy

* We wouldn't be in this energy price mess

* We would have skills and industry exportable to the world

* We wouldn't be adding to the Worlds carbon problem

Its not surprising that Hydrocarbon gas prices that are 'fueling the war on net zero by the invested and their perhaps clueless cheerleaders.

It seems to me that politicians, having largely ignored the problem, are using short term solutions to a long term problem. The UK and Europe need to wean themselves off reliance on Russia and ideally any other country for energy requirements. I can't see a long term solution other than renewables for self-sufficiency and they also lower pollution.

Short term solutions?

Seems to me they are digging us into a very shallow WW1 type trench while the bombs fall

Heres a very apt metaphor:

We need to make the leap from a spoilt childhood feeding of the mothers oil and shitting in our own pants, into an adulthood where we create our own energy, pay our dues, clean the home and look after our mother.
