Can I ask, could you list the other debts e.g. council tax, credit card etc (you don't have to provide the CC names)

I'm asking because some debts take priority and shouldn't be paid pro rata. Therefore, and I think I'm right about this, once the funeral been paid, say for example there's £100 left and a council tax bill of £200, Council Tax gets the £100 and that's the end of it.

Hi, thank you for helping.

There's a widow who has taken over the council tax. This had been paid at the date of death.

After funeral expenses, there are two credit cards and some tax owed to HMRC, who I believe count as a creditor just like CapOne and the other credit card.

Apparently HMRC lost their preference in 2003. So pro rata payments all around I would have thought. Some company's will try and persuade family members to pay, but once the money in the estate is gone, that's it. Family members are not liable.
