Just need a bit of advice about my DMP. I'm expecting a pay rise in April and would like to save some of it to help pay for my wedding in September when i call them to give them my new budget. Does anyone know if this is possible, or will the banks see it as an unnecessary expense?

I thought the DMP was going to be a life saver, while it has obviously eased stress it also makes me feel like my life is on hold. We are getting married in September and hoping my future father in laws will make it until then as he is quite ill, if it wasn't for his illness we would probably be putting it off because of the money.

Regardless of this i only intend on getting married once and I still want to have my dream wedding so I feel like i need to contribute so that i can have more input.

Hello there.

Saving for a wedding is totally out of the question, sadly. If you're unable to meet your minimum contractual instalments then you're unable to save money for a wedding. I can certainly appreciate your situation and it's heartbreaking to read about your future father-in-law; it must be tough. Your DMP firm will expect periodic information from you which could involve sending in wage slips etc.

Sorry to be harsh.

Seq,

No worries! Thank you for the advice! I expected as much, I guess I was hoping for a miracle. My salary has gone up so I might try to talk to them and see what can be done as I will need to re budget, hopefully if I continue to pay the same amount it might work out.

Are you with a fee charging DMP ?

Have you looked at all the debts you have - have they ceased adding charges and interest ? If they are still adding charges, you can have a stab at reclaiming them.

Was there any Payment Protection Insurance on any of the debts - if there was and it was mis sold, you could submit a claim for the return of the premiums plus interest.

The only thing I can really suggest is that the guideline figures allow for quite generous figures for housekeeping and 'other expenditure' - so I guess you *could* try and keep some aside instead of using it for the things that normally would be accepted within this area of the budget. The general figures allow a little for things sich as socialising, sky, internet, sundries etc. It wouldn't be a huge amount but you could still satisfy the rules.

A wedding need not be expensive either. You'll be there with your nearest and dearest, I'm sure you could create a shoe-string wedding which still looked thousands of pounds! :0
