Got this dodgy looking email in response to a genuine looking email from a guy asking about my car I have advertised for sale on a yahoo group. Are there dodgy bank drafts on the go just now or could this 'Simon' actually be genuine?!

Hello ,

Thanks for the mail back to me.I am interested in purchasing car

as i am o.k with the offering price of your car that go for 1800 pounds as i intend givivg the car to my lovely son as a BIRTHDAY gift .i would have loved to pay in cash for the

car only that Payment would be made via bankers draft cheque

from my client Mr Fabian Costa in scotland who owes me some money from an

earlier transaction i had with him and he is willing to pay me inform

of a draft cheque. You do not have to worry about the shippment of the

car as that would be taken care of by my shipping agent whom i have

been working with for years now,he would be the person to come to your

LOCATION where the car is kept to pick it up .

My shipping agent would need all reg papers or receipt of your car because according to my shipping agent it would be very necessary for shippment.

I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

Thanks and have a nice day

Spelling poor and someone owing him money from a previous transaction all sounds dodgy - just dont understand why he has emailed asking if I have the reg docs?

If its a wind up and people fancy some stringing along emails then let me know any suggestions and I will mail him back! Bit annoying as I could really do with the money as I need to buy some sharp sand for paving slabs I am getting laid, and chuckies to finish off - am in Scotland so winter could come any time! I even have the extra slabs advertised to try and sell them to pay for the stuff I need but no joy so far!

It's a [problem], happens all the time. The bankers draft will initially clear, the car will be gone, then the cheque will arrive back to you in the post "Refer to Drawer", or the bank will call you to advise that the draft has been rejected.

Avoid this guy like the plague. If someone wants to buy the car they will email asking for a phone number and come to see the car with cash in their hand.

'Course the other thing we see quite a lot is that the cheque turns up for 10 times the amount required for the car. The 'buyer' realises his 'mistake' and asks you to pay it in then send him the difference by transfer. Then the cheque gets returned, leaving you well and truly out of pocket. They're not usually to worried about collecting the car, though!

I've had several of these and reported them back to yahoo who took action against them. The first one I had gave a contact phone number so I rang it and it was completly bogus person I spoke to had never heard of person I asked for and wanted to know where I got their phone number from so explained. Don't know what they did about that tho.

A lot of sites like autotrader etc give warnings about these scams now.
