We have had the same problem ....

a month we sent a letter off to David Lloyd about cancelling like we had been said that we could do by david lloyd.

we call up and find that they haven't received the letter a month later even though we sent by the directest mail you could! they tell us that it is are responsibility to get the letter there not royal mail as said in the fine print. we are sure the letter has been recieved so only other explanation is that theyt have ripped up the letters or some how dodged reading it.we then find out we have been charged £70 this month ! We are complaining everywhere we can because we are outraged please spread the word!

Stand your ground and don't be frightened by a few nasty letters. Remember, it will cost them many, many thousands of pounds to take you to court, so they really won't bother because it's not worth their while. And it's unlikely they'd win anyway, as their contracts are unreasonable.

A friend of mine had to go abroad to sort out things after his father's death. Not knowing how long he'd be away, he cancelled his membership. He was gone for 3 months: when he returned, he found a bill for over £2000! Apparently, this was his membership fee of £60 per month plus all their "extra" charges!

He simply ignored them. They wrote a few nasty letters, but nothing happened. I suggest you keep your blood pressure down and just do the same. They'll stop writing eventually. If it ever comes to it, you can always do exactly what they've done, and say you didn't receive their letters, and that it was their responsibility, not Royal Mail's, to ensure you got them.

Hi WDL and welcome to CAG

I've moved your post and the above reply into your own thread that you can use from now on.

1. When did you join the DL gym and how long was the minimum contract period.

2. When did you write to them cancelling.

When you tell us the answers, I'll probably suggest you write again to DL's Head Office by Recorded Delivery enclosing a copy of the original letter.

If you are outside the minimum contract period, you should ask them to refund the money they've taken since although you may not get it back.

You also need to cancel the Direct Debit mandate with your bank or DL will continue to take your money.

:-)

We could do with some help from you
