Hi

Anyone read the daily mail today (ok I know , not my favourite paper) there is a double page article about payday loans . Quite interesting in a Daily mail kind of way, but it mentions a couple of people off this forum, chaos being one of them

It's a shame this has been taken up by the Daily Mail....hardly a reputable paper, infact probably the kind of paper all these DCA thugs read so not really the best forum to expose the payday scandal. If I was to believe everything the daily mail publishes I would die from shock...all their loud SHOUTING headlines which more often than not turn out to be nothing and as for their weather articles, I'm just glad not to have been frozen to death or boiled by the sun or swept away by rain or splattered by a meteorite! And thank goodness I'm not a muslim, black, foreign, gay or a celebrity because the daily mail really hates them - and just who the f*** is Kim Kardashian? The daily mail has endless articles about this "person" and the enormous deformed backside......who cares?

You only have to read the comments left on Mailonline by readers to see what vileness it promotes...no doubt the victims of payday loans will be villified and blamed for their own situation!

Ok rant over...

Thankfully there are proper publications discussing the payday vultures too!

Actually for once it is against saying how bad these companies are, how lax British regulation is and how rich the owners are. It even mentions Stella whatshername the labour MP in a positive light.

Of course should the regulations be tightened it will be "due to the Daily mail campaign"

Oh and the daily mail hates me because i am a white gay man who is in receipt of benefits , all i need to do is have a sex change and convert to Islam and I will be on the top of thier hate list

Already the hate comments are starting on mailonline:

I've used pay day loans quite a few times, and I've never had any issue with them. This is because I always pay back on time though. I think if you have any doubt that you will be able to pay it back in time, do not take one out. But if you pay back when you're supposed to, then they can be quite handy.

They obviously were NOT taught the meaning of NO when they were youngsters ! Just saying NO ! Plus a bit of SELF-Discipline ! THAT is all it takes ! But THAT is what they lack ! Revolting Pensioner ( That's ME ! ) PLUS ! I am NOT in debt to ANYONE ! " Neither a Borrower, or Lender be ! "

Do not agree to terms you cannot fulfil!!! If I borrowed £10 off a friend for a week and bought them a pint to say thanks the 'interest' would be the same. These loans are not intended to be for months - just days or a few weeks. It's not like the charges are a surprise. I'm sick of people blaming the company when they do not ad hear to the T&C's. If they could go to a high street bank for a good rate they would, but they will have already proved to banks they cannot be trusted, then they don't pay these companies and 'suddenly' the debt spirals out of control. Restraint is something missing in this country!!! Oh, if you are behind in your council tax/electric/gas/water - CALL THE COUNCIL/COMPANY not a pay day loan company!! They won't charge you interest!!

Poor darlings. How dreadful for these Companies to take advantage of them when they know they haven't the intelligence to work out the consequences for themselves. Please help them, nanny state.

GOOD : ) but gutted I prob won't be able to get a copy of the paper now, so any links highly appreciated !!just hope this paper has the 'balls' to elaborate what happens when you fall into default with the vast majority of them

Thanks, usual bit of twaddle from the DM, including a rather inappropriate 'older' couple, the majority of the payday loan market (to my knowledge and experience) are the under 30s.

DM's researchers need a lesson in how to properly research an 'advertorial' for the PDL companies and their directors.

I've only just noticed this thread! Oh dear. The aforementioned comments are a bit harsh though.

I've always accepted full responsibility for my actions and never once said the companies had "taken advantage." I know I've only myself to blame, but I'm not to blame for my hours being cut. If one of these people lost their job and couldn't keep up with their loan or mortgage repayments, would they be frowned upon? If they couldn't repay a debt, and the company turned around and doubled what they owed, they'd be pretty scared too. At least I've taken action to repay what I owe, there are people out their who owe thousands.

I was going to write a reply on there to give them a piece of my mind, but it says they've stopped accepting comments...

Yeah me to, I tried Friday afternoon to post but it doesn't show so I've lost a lot of faith, there (DM) obviously being selective with the comments ... : (

I myself just thought it was a rather irresponsible double spread which did lead to my own worry and concern along with being stero-typed

instead of pointing out how posh a companies office is or what the directors get up to in their own spare time like everyone is intitled to it would have been more beneficial to have written about avenues of help when in the payday loan situation of default - (sure this could be explained better but it's late!)

I think I'm going to stop now as the bit about postings on this type of forum being mostly 'hatered fuelled' towards the companies was so wrong, to me the situation has been a bit like the titantic crash... in the storm you can go to bed and prepare for the worse or cling on for dear life doing whatever it takes to get through to these companies sometimes you have to help yourself, I just hoped I helped a little along the way x

Don't beat yourself up about it Chaos. After all it is typical Daily Mail. I was looking for the comment that I posted on the "unmoderated" boards but it seems to have vanished. Personally I thought the article was fairly good, having a go at the fat cat bosses (although that is real DM stuff) but maybe I didn't read it well enough.

Im my opinion , the only reason these companies do well is that once someone gets caught in the trap, not many have the skills, help or knowledge to beat them at their own game and invoke the law. That is where this forum is so good
