Guys

I've just had a debt collection company call me and leave a voicemail on my work phone (which we all use) stating where they were calling from and that it was regarding my default on a payday loan with x company.

Can they do this?? Surely some discretion should be followed here?? It's very embarrassing

Hi State

I sent and followed up;

"You have telephoned me at work in a manner that appears to breach Office of Fair Trading and other regulatory bodies’ guidelines. I have verbally requested that you cease this breach; I reiterate that now. Your telephone calls have the effect of psychological harassment and act in a way that is likely to be publically embarrassing to me. Your telephone calls may jeopardise my continued employment and result in significant financial loss.

Should you choose to continue to breach regulatory guidelines and UK and EU law by telephoning me at work I will report your activities to the Office of Fair Trading and the Financial Ombudsmen Service and other relevant agencies.

I have made an initial report today to Consumer Direct regarding your activities (Ref no: WMxx) who have advised me to request a reply from you within fourteen working days prior to contacting them again to escalate this complaint."

best wishes

vic

and if you give them the OFT guidlines that will stop them... (yeh right) stop ignoring them, call them come to an arrangement and they wont call, they know the OFT guidlines and they are choosing to ignore it, its no suprise, always answer your mobile and then they will have no reason to call your work...

I did Jamie, they called me on my mobile and left a voicemail, then whilst I was listening to the voicemail (I was on the phone when they called) they rang my work line and left a message on there - they don't give you a chance to return their calls!

They are not suppose to harrass you at work, it gives them the confidence to do it further to you and others. Don't be bullied by them, someone clearly thinks it's acceptable.

The guidelines were posted to answer a question, not to be brushed aside by you.

Oh Jamie

Are you smitten by a kitten in a DCA?

When I complain of harassment, they say

'We're here to help, it won't go away'

A FOS complaint stalls the calls for a while

Grab hold of your pennies, and even you'll smile.

lol. in my opinion all i am giving the OP is the advise to get them to stop. i dont think its acceotable, i think its awful and wrong, but i've learnt from my own mistakes that telling them the OFT guidlines will not stop them. shame but it's the truth. the only way i got them to stop was answering their calls and telling them either to call me later and i would answer or if i could talk, talking to them then and there. do as you please... good luck.

You still miss the point, nobody has said 'telling them the OFT guidlines will not stop them', thats your interpretation of whats been posted. By reading the guidelines

the OP can decide what action to take, it's your interpretation that the OP will not benefit from the OFT Guidelines, but it's worked for many people.

I'm not sure what steps you took. It does work.

Re: Debt collectors calling at work...

The simple thing is not pass their security questions, (I've already done it once this year to a cold caller) and ask for the number to be removed as clearly you are not who they are seeking.

be careful using this tactic, if you tell the caller the person is not known on that no. that means the company can accuse you of fraud by submitting an incorrect phone number during your application.

If a complaint goes as far as the OFT and the lender can prove your application was fraudulent it wont look good.
