No, some of use are looking at the last 13 years as the hell of a damn sight better than the catastrophic years before that. Some of us don't suffer from selective memories, which magically erase anything which happened before 1997

 

Still, as I said: convince me. You're still resorting to the smear campaign instead of selling me the good points of DC. I'm listening.

 

We all have selective memories when it comes to politics. In your book it means: Conservative = bad, Labour = Good. For me it's the other way around. Go back to the Labour government of the 1970's and it wasn't that good was it? I can't remember what the inflation rate was but I expect people earning a fair bit can remember what the taxation rate was (98p in the pound in case you've forgotten). I can remember the scenes of uncollected rubbish and unburied bodies too. Yes, I can also remember the 3-day week under Edward Heath - pompous prat that he was (only an opinion).

 

I think you'll find that smear campaigns are the preserve of the Labour party/government (remember Rose Addison and David Kelly?).

 

The important thing is that Brown will soon be leaving Downing Street. He won't be forgotten, not for a long time until we've paid for his legacy ("Mr Cameron/Clegg, I bequeath you £167 trillion of debt" or whatever it is). I've got a bottle of bubbly on ice, just waiting for the moment.

 

We'll never agree. Before you know what we'll be back to what happened in the 1950s. The whole point as I think we both agree, is that we vote for who we believe will do best by us. For you it's Labour, for me it's not.

 

What else is there to it?

The important thing is NOT Brown leaving Downing Street, the important thing is who will decide on Britain's policies for the next 4-5 years. Brown is but a man. Any of the coalitions being discussed right now, THAT's important. How they will shape the future political landscape, that's important. This is where listening to outside specialists should be important (and yes, I do mean the IMF.) Unfortunately, I fear that won't happen.

You don't know what rules my head and it is very arrogant of you to presume that you do. Ultimately though, I suspect that it is the same as you - like I've said repeatedly, I want was is best for me and my family. That of course includes how best to deal with Labour's debt legacy. I don't believe that purpose is best served by having a proven liar and spendthrift as Prime Minister. Ergo: Bye bye Gordon and bloody good riddance.

Well here's one way of looking at it:

 

64% of the voters didn't vote for Cameron.

71% of the voters didn't vote for Brown.

77% of the voters didn't vote for Clegg.

100% of the voters didn't vote for a hung parliament or any kind of pact.

 

Now we're in for a little taste of what the future holds if we get PR.

True. None of us got what we voted for. For me the only crumb of comfort is that the Brown motorcade will shortly be leaving Downing Street for the last time. He can now go back to Scotland and vote on matters affecting England. Whereas .... (another Labour legacy).
