Okay now I'm confused.

On my agreement it says

Payment Method: Clydesdale.

Everything else is about Advent / Anglo Capital.

Does this mean I have an account with Barclays?

If so I haven't received a letter from them.

Does this mean I can still cancel the direct debit and/or reclaim the amount that has been taken for February?

clydesdale is Barclays

Advent is Anglo

Anglo is Access 2 careers

Barclays Partner finance is Barclays

RBS is RBS

Hitachi is Hitachi

RING BARCLAYS CLYDESDALE and make sure you have an account now. I you do then DO NOT CANCEL. If you dont then cancel and wait for a letter. 0844 811 9000

Just rang Clydesdale (thanks for that)

And the woman said there was no record of me having an account with her.

She mentioned Barclays Partner Finance and said that people with those accounts are being offered alternative training.

I did ask her if any of those had Anglo Capital on their bank statements and she couldn't really answer but I'm guessing they didn't.

She said if I did have an account with Barclays/Clydesdale then I should have an account reference number on my bank statement.

eg Anglo Capital 0000000000000

But I have never seen that and never see anything that said Barclays or Clydesdale on my bank statement.

She did inform me that Advent / Anglo Capital are no longer trading. Guess I will have to see what my bank says tomorrow.

It seems like something has gone wrong here. Like they've neglected the administration or mismanaged the accounts. It seems harder than it should be to find out where my money has been going and is still going...

Okay it was an oversight on my part.

I actually have two copies of the Enrolement form.

One was to be used if I had a guarantor (in which case the payment method would have been Clydesdale / Barclays). This had been pre-filled out.

However, what happened was I could not find a guarantor and therefore had to sign up to the Student Finance Plan (listed as SFP on the enrolement form).

Under that agreement the terms specifically mention that payment is to be made to:

Group Company which is defined as Advent or a subsidiary of. Therefore my payments are going to Advent in essence. Surely this is fraud now?

I'll be cancelling the Direct Debit on Monday and hopefully will reclaim at least February's payment.

thanks russ!

they say on the forum that Barclays is looking for a new provider. what do you think about that? because I am not very keen on going on with the course any more after all this story

Yes I have heard & read a lot about Barclays Partner Finance [bPF] finding an alternate provider to continue our IT training. I haven't yet received anything in writing from BPF to confirm what they are doing.

I personally wouldn't be happy to accept the alternate training provider. We will have to see who they are and what they offer!

Trust me I will be doing a lot of background checks with Credit Reference Agencies to see if the next provider doesn't go the same way.

I'm not willing to travel to Glasgow and/or London to continue my training. I'd rather cancel my payments and forget the whole thing. We have all learnt a horrible lesson from this. In a way ADVENT promised a whole new world to us students "if its too good to be true - then it usually is!!"

Pvincent,

I am on the Student Finance Plan with Anglo. The monies, from what I can see are automatically collected by FCC (First Capital Cashflow). From what I can See they are like a corporate Paypal. They collect the Direct Debits and pass them on. If this is the case then CANCEL your direct debit now like I have and await a letter. If anyone contacts you (which I doubt) then you will have someone to question for your money back or whatever you want. The worst that can happen is you get a late payment charge. If you explain why they will probably forget about the charge anyway.

Okay so here is my issue:

People with Barclay's agreements have some sort of insurance in the form of alternative training and possible refunds.

But what about people like myself who had agreements directly with Advent / Anglo Capital?

If they're both insolvent does that mean I have wait for the insolvency practitioner to refund me a few pennies or a few pounds?

Is it possible to sue the directors / other companies ran by Advent's directors for the course Fee which I am entitled to in the event of a breach of contract?

The outlook is pretty bleak for me now. I don't hold out much hope of getting any money back :-|

At least the Barclays and Hitachi people can hold someone liable and have some chance of positive progression.

That's it in a nutshell. If you look at the small print on the back of the enrolment form it gets pretty sticky. Thats why I am getting legal advice

I still have not received an email from Advent to inform me that they are unable to continue with my training, and this course has finished as they have gone bust! Very poor as they knew about this in December 2009.

A few of us didn't notice the email from advent, as it landed in our "junk mail" folder. Check the folder, the damn thing might be in there.

The email came from the following address;

Evening everyone,

Just catching up with the threads, does anyone know if Barclays Partner Finance has a deadline (by law) to find alternative training? I'm on the advanced web dev course and as far as i'm aware there are not many training companies that solely specialise on these industry subjects. If they can't find suitable training to my needs am i right to decline and ask for a refund? (which i want anyway ideally)

is anyone else on the advanced web dev course on here?

Again i've spoken to an advent trainer today who made some recommendations in regards to redeployment of training to which I'm currently researching online as we speak.

Hi All

Just thinking about Barclays Partner Finance offering alternative training, my thought just now is, I have paid for this course and the money is mine, if they offer alternative training aren't they dictating to us how and who we spend our money with?? I don't think so, i am going to demand a refund no matter what.

To be honest with you this all doesn't really make sense, Advent has emailed us to say they can no longer provide the training, how has it now become barclays problem to find alternative training?? As far as i was concerned the financial institutes that have been "so kind" to offer us 12mth interest free loan, and paid advent the money outstanding and we paid the financial institutes back. I say they just don't want to give the money back, on top of that how do we know that this alternative course is going to be the prices we have paid?? who will verify that for us?

Its like going for a meal, ordering a steak, its not right you send it back, them turning round to you and saying sorry we have sold out of steak, you can only have a pork chop and there is no other option, take it or leave it.

I am getting very angry about this now, hope people agree with me

Nic

Hi there fellow Advent students or ex students as it seems to now stand.

Well as you can guess I am looking for advice with this situation although I seem to be in a slightly different position to the majority of you only because I paid for my course in full and now I am completely in the dark as to what to do next as Advent is the number or email I have to contact and so far all attempts have been unsuccessful... All I wish to know is am I as good as screwed with regards to recovering my £5500 or being redeployed into training elsewhere?

Just for note all I got out of Advent was 1 exam and 3 textbooks... Don't think that is really worth £5500.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Paul.

This is the answer I get from UK Law barrister at Juctask.com. Its not a legal advice but puts some light on case for people with barclays finance:

"If they offer another provider then you do. The only challenge may be that the course is not comparable but thats a weak one if the course offered gives you the same qualification.

You would not be able to get anything back at all in those circumstances.

But if they do not you are entitled to a full refund"

Lets find that part of the T&C where it says that we must accept an alternative service provider...
