Hi everyone:)

I was just wondering what (if anything) is the maximum monthly limit a bank is allowed to charge on one account for overdraft excess/ bounced d/ds etc?

I just saw on another thread where someone quoted £150 and Mr Landy thinks he read in a paper that it was £250.

We have had charges of up to and over £500 charged by LTSB on our account:eek:

Would be interested to hear the maximum others had been charged by their banks and if indeed there is supposed to be a ceiling?

Regards,

Landy,

Dont quote me,but im sure I too read somewhere it was £150 but cant remember where I read it.

Perhaps someone will kindly put both of us out of our misery lol

Interesting though how the banks do not publicize this important info.

Hi PF:)

I know - I've just been googling it and could find nothing that answered my question. To be honest, I'd never thought about it until Mr L said he'd read in a paper that it was £250 - unfortunately he left the paper on the train so I didn't get to see it.

LTSB regularly charged us anything from £265 up to £510 per month 3 or 4 years ago although they chose to wait till our account was incurring virtually no charges before they closed it - coincidentally within 3 months of putting in a claim for a refund of those charges:eek:

Hopefully our question will be answered soon!

Just empty your house of all belongings and send it off to them. Maybe they will go easy on you...

Errr..........there's no way I'd let them anywhere near the contents of my house as they're worth just a tad more than that!

These are not charges being applied now, but several years ago. I'm afraid I wouldn't bank with LTSB now if they were the last bank on earth!

Whose side are you on anyway:eek:

Just testing your mettle. :) Go and stick it up them with a large pitchfork.

Don't know about LTSB but up until the very recent changes (now £1 or £2 per day for authorised and £5 per day for unauthorised overdrafts) HBOS "limited" their unfair/illegal/immoral charges to 3 x £35 - i.e. "only" £105 per day - but this could be EVERY busness day in a month if you had 3 "unauthorised" transactions every day - so in theory could be 21 x £105 = £2205 - oh plus a single £28 over limit charge! And they have the cheek to say their charges are "fair" !!!!

Thanks for your input guys!

Renegotiation -

Bigdebtor - that's truly appalling and makes my £510 pale into insignificance - I hope you aren't speaking from experience there!

Grrratparker - Sorry to hear that, LTSB are the pits:mad:

So from what has been said, it would appear that there is no monthly maximum a bank can charge..........

HBOS have now revamped their authorised and unauthorised overdraft charges. Authorised is £1 per day for up to £2500 overdrawn and £2 per day for over £2500. Better for big overdrafts - previously 19.5% apr - but if you have an authorised £10.01 overdraft for 1 day you pay £1 which is 10% per day = 3650% apr!

An unauthorised overdraft of £10.01 is 5 times as much i.e. 18250% apr as unauthorised overdrafts are charged at £5 per day - so maximum per month is now £155. Better for people in bother since before they could have charged 3 x £35 = £105+£28 = £133 for going over by just 50p and having 3 items bounced on the same day.

If they can still make money out of the new charges then they were coining it in before! What a wunch of bankers!
