Oh am I ready to do battle now I know that it's not only ME against the might of the NatWest.

I have so often been into my branch to try and sort things out only for them to raise the overdraft limit which has only led to more debt for me and more charges for their profits.

Sending letter requesting info tomorrow.

When I win this a donation to this helpful and friendly site is the first thing on the list - closely followed by paying off the debt that NatWest has caused.

Has anyone found that NatWest are in the habit of closing your account once you rock the boat as I am a bit worried about being able to open a new account with a poor credit rating.

Hello Trudianne!:)

I'll be going after our (my partner's and mine) NatWest money from tomorrow on, too! At first I wanted to get Barclaycard done, but now I think: why wait?

I've done quite a bit of reading on this truly wonderful site, and people more in the know than me say that the banks usually don't close your account, and if they did want to thay'd have to give you 1 month notice. Having said that: they also recommend opening a "parachute" account just in case. So maybe you'd want to do that.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you're definitely not alone in this one! Just look through the success stories, very encouraging!!!

NatWest - here we come!:D

Go for it! Natwest must be vety worried when they read this forum. I'm sure the Natwest area is growing bigger and bigger. 1st step: know how much you've been charged over the last 6 years. Look at your statements or make a data protection act request (known as a subject access request or SAR) and count em' up.

Tracey - good to know someone else is at same stage as us - let me know how you fare. At the moment I still think that I'm going to be "the one" who ends up in BIG trouble for asking for what is our money!

Don't panic, i think most of us feel like that. My worry is that the courts will decide an outcome before things get to court and will stop all this but im sure this won't happen, we will all have to cross our fingers, im sure we will all be fine.

Hi Trudianne

I'm at the same stage as you - requested statements.

I managed to open a basic card/cash account through Barclays with no frills. I also had a similar offer from Alliance & Leicester. I chose Barclays because the Co. I work for bank with them. (Personally, I think all banks are Robbers!) I also have a poor credit rating because I apparently owe money to Reader's Digest for a book I have NEVER received!

So GO FOR IT and Good Luck to us both.

Best wishes, Mari

Thanks for that we have both A&L and Barclays locally so will go in to enquire.

I agree they all have their faults but it would be nice to be able to start with a "clean slate" and hopefully not get into the VICIOUS cycle of charges/overdraft etc etc.

Good luck to us all and BRING IT ON I can't wait for the tatty brown envelope(s) to arrive and to really get going on this!:)

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi Trudianne,

From what I've read over the past few days on here....

Did your written request clearly contain all vital account information? i.e. Account Number, Sort Code, Account Name, and (with a cherry on top) your Branch Address?

The reason I ask is that I've seen some postings where nothing has happened with just an account number supplied.

I've seen other postings where NatWest have waited until the 11th hour before responding. I see you sent your request by recorded delivery and you have about a week left.

If you are still worried, call them and find out what is happeneing with your request.

If you've done all this and the 40 days comes and goes, then report them!

Good Luck

Ned

PS. I'm sending my S.A.R. again - as I forgot to include all vital account info and my £10.00 payment - durrrrr.....

Thanks - I did give them every last bit of info so I think a phone call might be the way to go. As you say if they don't arrive I will report them but does that then mean I can go no further....

I'm sure you know what it's like - I'm straining at the leash to go and get 'em! I know they owe me BIG time!

Thanks for the support and make sure you send everything with your SARs this time!!!

I'll remember - don't worry!! :D

Oh no - it doesn't mean you have to stop. If they dont respond to a SAR in 40 days and you report them, then the Data Protection Dudes will hammer them for non compliance.

I haven't seen anything on here where Natwest have failed to respond to a recorded delivery SAR with all the right information in time.

Has anyone else?

Ned

Hi Trudianne,

I'm helping my gf with her claim and NW were hopeless with our SAR. Despite sending the template letter and enclosing a cheque and sending it to the DPA address, they didn't respond, claimed to have lost the letter; we had to phone several times and my gf became a permanent fixture at our local branch whilst they ordered and reordered stamenets incorrectly. My advice would be to call Joyce Tudor's office and take somebody's direct dial number so you can phone them when they don't arrive.... we finally received them yesterday on day 41. The number is in one of the stickies regarding addresses.

Good luck!
