Hello,

Question regarding Egg trying reach me via telephone. As per usual, I refuse to answer any telephone call on my mobile they make to me and communicate only by letter.

However, this morning they called me on my office line (which I must have called them from at some point). At no point have I provided them with this number, as obviously it is for work only. When I quizzed the operator why they were calling me on this line I was told they had sourced it from one of their data suppliers.

Is that allowed? Is there any action I should take to stop them calling me at work?

All help appreciated.

Best,

Roy

Harassment by telephone

Account Number: XXXXXXX

I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.

I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls. (Delete if necessary)

I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.

I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.

Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded. (**Even if you don‘t yet have recording equipment!!**)

also state that if they continue to use your works phone you will bill them £25 for every call answered, due to their tying up an important work number

Thank you PGH7477. Appreciate your insight greatly and I will action as suggested.

Are they allowed to use a number in which to reach me that I have never given them permission to call?

Best,

Roy

I received a phone call from Egg on my work mobile phone, which was a phone shared by on-call managers for operational emergencies, the girl asked if I was "Mr Smith" and when I told her I wasn't she started giving me details of his account problems. I told her again that I wasn't "Mr Smith" adding that he had left the company and that she should be discussing his account with me. She responded that "we can use any number that he give us" - very professional I thought.
