I had been working as a bus driver for over 20 years for the most of it with the same company. Then 2 years ago we all had to do a CRB check. When mine came back there was a problem with it. Something I had done over 25 year ago. Now this had nothing to do with children or violence I might add.

The local council, (which the company got its work from). Told them that they didn’t want me driving buses. I was told I had no appeal.

The union looked into it and I was told by the union solicitor that there was nothing I could do.

The company were good about it and they gave me another job in the depot. But it was one of those jobs that nobody wanted, and after a few months I found another job.

Now I have been made redundant and been wondering if I could do something, but I don’t know where to start. If anybody could give me advice I would be very grateful.

I don’t think I could go that way. As I was told by the solicitor at the time the problem waswith the council. As I was not employed by the council, I had no way to make an appeal

This didn’t happen all in one day. It started in early 2007, I had to see the manager and he told me what had happened. I was given a contact name at the council and I had to explain to them the full details. I was told by the lady at the council that they would have to make further enquire and it should be all right. Well this went on for six weeks with me phoning every few day all the time I was told not to worry.

Then I had to see the manager again and he told me the bad news.

So you see the problem is not with my employer, but the council.

What annoyed me was at no time did I receive any communication myself from the council apart from the phone calls, and they would not tell me for what reason they had picked just me. There were other drivers suspended for worse things than me, but are still driving.

Sorry about the rant but I have to get it off my chest.

I would make further contact with your union to discuss this - explain this is affecting your work. I don't think information over 25years old should be taken as gold, it should be reviewed, was this serious enough. Were you consulted and given information during the investigation process?

You now don't work for the same bus company? Have you visited Citizens Advice.

My advice is only my opinion, I am not a legal expert.
