Ok will reveal as much as I can at the moment.

You'll have to wait and see, but the matter is in good hands.

If the final result shows the DCA industry in the true light they deserve, I don't know for sure. All I know is CAG members are doing their best to provide their side of the story, and hopefully a mention of this site that then goes on to help others.

These are video links to show how I deal with Debt Collectors.

Response from OFCOM:

Thank you for contacting Ofcom.

Although we've noted your concerns about a perceived bias in a recent edition of Panorama, this is not a matter in which Ofcom can intervene.

While the Ofcom Broadcasting Code does contain rules restricting commercial references and undue prominence to brands in programmes, and also matters relating to impartiality, under the terms of the Communications Act these rules do not apply to BBC services.

Such matters are, ultimately, regulated by the BBC Trust, but the BBC has a formal complaints process and complaints should be pursued via that avenue in the first instance BBC Complaints - Homepage

So the BBC gets to regulate itself. Anything smells fishy?

a standard letter, you may as well go and find the nearest brick wall and headbutt it. You're dealing with the public sector on gold standard pensions here, no one will want to 'rock their own boat' and engage with you. Do nothing and reap the benefits.

I'm sure that's a cut and paste. I think I had the exact same response form them within 24 hours of sending in my complaint, unfortunately I thought it was such a lame response I have deleted it.

Welcome to the forums and for posting that information. Typical 1st credit I am afraid. I have been with them, battling it out for four years and they are not only ruthless but they take absolutely, no notice of anyone, Trading Standards included. In mental Health, you have access to an Advocate and they usually know who to contact. Have they been helpful?

Hi ,The patient advocate is very good but obviously not with this lot he didnt even receive a reply! I wont let them win just thinking where to go with it all next!

I think you have just given me the next place to show first credit for what they are! My old dad would be so proud!!!

Is this program a repeat? We downloaded it a couple of weeks back and i'm sure it was aired back in June/July. One couple managed to write off 100k worth of debt but because they went to court over somthing they are now 100k back in debt due to costs. One thing that puzzled me was the presenter said they are in debt because they didn't claim back all monies paid for the debt, had they done this they wouldnt have had all the court costs??? I thought you couldn't claim back what you had paid?

Lloyds TSB -Settled in full 30/08/06 :)

Now whoes next :)

As far a I am aware, the Panorama prog. was a new one. The Rankines have featured on several progs. - they seem to have become the new 'it' people for lazy TV researchers. In fact, it looks as though this might be the only way they will be able to earn a living in the future as in the eyes of the court they have overplayed the 'poor debtor' role.

And don't believe everything you hear on TV re. claims etc. particularly where the Rankines are involved. Stick wih CAG if you want reliable advice. :)

Well, well they must be reading my posts! Got a response regarding my complaint and as to be expected its pretty pathetic, usual fob off and we'll try to do better blah, blah, etc. Think I will respond by saying that I intend to withhold payment when my licence comes up for renewal next year

Have you got a thread going on here with all the details. If not give it a heading, "First Credit" and people on here will help you with responses on what letters to write yourself.

I have had a reply to my complaint by email:

Thanks for your correspondence.

I'm sorry if you felt the programme was biased towards the point of view of debt agencies.

'Can't Pay, Won't Pay' clearly pointed out via Basil and Amanda Rankine and the lawyer from Stephensons Solicitors LLP, that errors in one's credit agreements can lead to creditors wiping out one's debt. We also made plain via Mr Henderson's case and the commercial litigation specialist Richard Kerr that creditors and debt collecting agencies are moving much more quickly towards using charging orders and forced orders for sale.

The one fact we were unable to provide was just how many of the forced orders for sale are actually enforced, as many debtors repay their debt at the point the order is issued.

Please be assured that your comments have been included in our audience log. This is circulated widely within the BBC and made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

Yours Sincerely

BBC Panorama
