  1. I'm in a bit of a pickle and am hoping someone can help me work out how to get around this: I bought my partner an Apple laptop via eBay three years ago. All seemed above board, but I collected in person and the seller insisted I pay cash as they didn't want to risk a Paypal chargeback - fair enough, I thought. At the time, they assured me they would send me a copy of the original Apple sale receipt and I asked several times. The seller then stopped responding to my messages. Not an issue, I thought, since I had the laptop and didn't think the proof of purchase would be an issue. To prevent the laptop being used if stolen, we put a firmware password on the laptop - this is a low-level password that effectively locks the Mac altogether if the hard disk is changed, which makes it very difficult for thieves to use the laptop if they steal it and try to wipe the hard drive. Six months later in 2015, we realised that we had forgotten the password. We took the laptop to Apple and, after e-mailing every bit of correspondence I had had from the eBay sale and with the seller of the laptop, a nice chap at Apple Ireland authorised my local Apple repair shop to reset the firmware password. Thinking we were out of the woods, my partner put a new password on the machine, wrote it down safely in a book, and that was that. Fast forward to two weeks ago, and we have realised that we have once again forgotten the password, and, having moved house, have lost the book. However, this time, Apple have refused to reset the password, because we don't have the original sale receipt for the laptop. Apple have said that, since we don't have the original proof of purchase, we will have to pay around £500 to have a new main board (the logic board) replaced. My instinct in this matter is that, having proven once beyond reasonable doubt that we are the legitimate owners of the laptop, a reasonable person would believe that we are still the rightful owners of the laptop, and Apple should remove the password. If somebody could help, we would be most grateful (in fact, if you can help us get Apple to authorise this password removal, I will send you £50 and a crate of beer/cider/wine/fizzy pop of your choice) Thanks ever so much!   2. Hi all, So performed a filter change, all 3, oil etc, basic home enthusiast level.. Always done own basics. Need to reset oil counter / service. Options are not on the menu like the us version. Contacted main dealer who sold me the car.... Needs to go on machine at a cost of 82.00 plus vat to reset the interval... I asked if D Turpin was the owner.... Anyway, any expert know if any gm / Vauxhall garage can do this or a gadget ? South yorks area Many thanks N
  3. Hi everyone. Friday, the 17th my Nokia's screen, or at least a part of it stopped responding, and problem was that it was in the most strategic place, just about at near bottom of it where all the 'OK' and 'NEXT' buttons are. I rang Virgin Mobile from another unlocked phone and discussed it's repair as it was still under the warranty. Just because of the nature of the fault I was unable to do any kind of backup, I was then assured by technical team that a note has been made of the system that I requested not to have any kind of reset. A lad I spoke to also advised me that it would be the best to put the same on the form that I will receive in post to pack my phone and send for repair. I certainly have done that, I put that I have made a special request not to have my factory reset because I was unable to carry out a backup of my data and also stated that before they will even think of doing the factory reset is to call me on my mobile and rediscuss it. Today I received my phone, everything was gone, literally. I am a businessman, I had hundreds of mobile numbers saved, stocks exchange portfolio, bitcoin wallet with over 60 bitcoins there. I can literally count my loses in thousands. All that information is unrecoverable. I was trying to at least save bitcoins, but due to the nature of the app, entire access was through the area that did not work, and I did inform virgin media in the most convinient way, over the phone and in writting not to erase any data. Despite that post on forum, I am seeing a lawyer tomorrow, but has anyone ever had a case like that, as I am more than likely to sue them for that. Kind Regards, Luke
  4. Hello. I have unusual problem with my previous insurer. Back in June 2013 i renewed my insurance with MoreThan. And then after few months I declared SORN on my car and cancelled direct debit on car insurance. Since then I was not driving. today I called them about getting my NCB proof since I want to get back on the road. What they told me after I explained what happened is that since I haven't told them about SORN on my car is they resetting my NCB from 8 years to 0. Can they do that? I never claimed and even without that extra year I cancelled, my previous NCB is still less than 24 months (June 2013). Can I get them to provide me with NCB certificate dated before I started that new policy? How do I stand from the legal point of view. Thanks a lot for all the answers Edit: I forgot to mention that I do not owe them any money. I specifically asked about that and they confirmed.
  5. Hi guys, not sure if anyone has any answers to this but I'd try ask anyway. I started some part some work 3-4 months ago, it was only meant to be a Christmas contract but I jumped at the chance. Just felt so much better to finally find something to do and it's because they were short staffed and really needed a van driver so they instantly offered me the job. Now my position apparently could end at any time they told me or they may keep me on it depends on the workload. It was only meant to last for a short period but they've kept me on longer already so I'll have to see. So it looks like I could end up back on JSA again unless something else crops up (which could be likely as I did relocate to try find more work). Basically I was wondering how long does it take for your claim to "Reset"? I was on post work programme support I think and would rather avoid it at all costs (obviously if my job ends no choice). If my claim resets at least I'll then again have a few months to find part time work again before being sent back to something. Does anyone have any info about this? I recall my advisor saying 3 months to me long ago but I can't be sure. Many thanks
  6. After some great advice on here i managed to get a PCN charge reset, good times! Unfortunately I already paid the bloody bailiff (about a month ago) as he clamped the car, so filled in a late witness statment and have now had letters from the court and council saying i only have to pay £50 but have paid £300 to the robbing basterwards, so my question is where do I go to get the money back? Bailiffs? council? charge back? And also will i get it all back? Many thanks in advance.
