I'm really ashamed to talk about this so please don't judge me.

I went into a store yesterday and I don't know why or how I went to exchange an item for a smaller size

but I for some reason picked up a few items on the receipt and asked for a refund.

I am not aware of doing this and I'm still in shock that I as a person did this.

They caught it on CCTV took me to the back of the store.

Goods refunded were £20.

They took my personal details and called the police.

The officer arrived about an hour and half later who

spoke to the manager and

the manager said it was an 'RJ' against me.

The officer took down my personal details in his book and

I had my child with me and they took their name.

The police officer was very understanding and checked my details and in my life iv never done anything.

He told me to pay for the goods and that he will wait outside in his car

and that he will come to me once I'm back in my car which he did.

Once I went back to my car he arrived and sat next to me explaining everything and talking to me.

He told me I might have PND or severe stress which is what's lead me to my actions as I'm not aware that I did it.

Iv had 4 miscarriages and a lot of other personal underlying issues.

He just got me to sign a paper and that's it.

The manager of the store has banned me from all their stores.

I just want to know, I'm going to get a civil rights letter, what do i do?

What i have explained to you does it sound like a warning or a caution from the police officer?

I'm really worried and scared.

I have rang the Head Office of this store several times apologising

and I have been advised by them to send an email of apology.

I understand the ban of the store but I don't understand why every store is included.

Will this come up in CRB checks?

I am visiting my doctor next week.

as there was no caution or anything legal wise.

I wouldn't worry about the store ban

in a few months it'll be forgotten.

as for other store they don't exchange branch info.

as for the CRB etc etc

it DOES NOT effect them either.

There wont be anything in a CRB check. It sounds like you had an understanding officer who heard what you have gone through, allowed you to pay for the goods ( i hope you kept them as they would now be your property), and let you go.

In regards to any company chasing you for money, please dont pay them. Come back here and we can help you through this. If needs be, we will help you form a letter to the CEO of the shop explaining what happened and get them called off that way.

For now though, try and relax, and go see your doctor.

I look at my child and I feel so bad for what I put him through.

They have said if I walk into any of their stores it's trespassing.

The deputy manager and security guy were very harsh which I know is their job but he kept telling me about the civil rights

and how they had everything on CCTV.

That's what scares me - how long do they have these images for?

Am I messed up for life?

Will it come up on my CRB?

I will be emailing Head Office with an apology as it's something I need to do.

I have no idea why the police officer took your Son's name I am only guessing that it is just for his report

RLP are indeed very aggressive and as you are feeling rather fragile, then I think you need some support. So, please go and see your GP, if you are suffering from PND (and it does indeed sound as though you are) then they WILL be able to help you

It might also help to get RLP off your back if you can show that you are vulnerable.

There was two security people

- one kept saying I knew what I was doing etc and sometimes twisted what I said but I'm thankful to god the other guard was listening and corrected him.

Apparently there is a crime ref number as well because I wanted to speak to the officer who dealt with this

as to what the form was I signed as it's all a blur to me.

Am I worrying for nothing?

How long do they keep the CCTV images for? Are they distributed to all of the stores?

don't be fooled by this cctv rubbish

that's only applicable on serial shoplifters.

don't forget

some of these retail 'security guards'

always like to 'ramp up' their importance

they are NOT THE POLICE

they have NO LEGAL POWERS whatsoever.

the crime number the police have

is solely to do with the fact they were involved

that's all

you've nothing here to worry about.

its done, dead, no lasting LEGAL involvement whatsoever.

I thought you'd already phoned the store/chain.

you could but in all effect it'll make no diff.

99% of 1st time shoplifters [sorry for using that word]

will either get

1. let off.

2. get a fixed penalty notice.

3.be cautioned.

2 you would have been given a copy of the FPN and been told how to pay it. you weren't so you've not got one.

3. you get asked/taken to the station. - you weren't so no caution.

lets be clear here of whats next

you WILL get lots of SCARY letters from RLP

That's what the store has put against me.

So i have nothing against my name, as it was dealt in store by the police officer?

There was a a security guard and a store detective.

The store detective was very harsh and said what I had did was even worse than shoplifting.

I even told him I didn't realise I was doing it - he made me feel so Low

and even bad for my actions which I guess is his Job.

The security guard did say to me the police officer will just give me 'slap on the wrist'

and about a year later I will be allowed back in if I write a letter.

Why the two conflicting messages from these two people then?..

. So please confirm to me that I'm ok,

nothing againsty name,

nothing will come up on CRB although I had to sign a paper for the police officer.

While not trying to worry you more than you already are, it may be that the police officer could see how distressed you were and made the decision to take your childs name. Where an officer has reason to suspect that a child may be affected by a parents behavior, they have a duty to record it. Maybe nothing will come of it but IF Social Services become involved, they will be there to help.

As mentioned earlier, please go and see your GP. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is very effective and even counselling can help you cope.

You obviously have some issues to contend with and your GP will be sympathetic and it will be confidential.

You have taken the first steps by being open on this forum. The next step is being open with your GP.

As for RLP, They send a few letters then pass it on to a debt collector who has absolutely no power over you, even though they like to think they do. This then gets passed back to RLP who will do-nothing.

Try and deal with this on a day to day basis. you will come through.

No need to bump the thread. Theres really nothing to worry about. jackie ( RLP boss) will send you multiple letters with all sorts of empty threats. She cannot do anything and she exists purely to intimidate and threaten you. Keep your nerve and ignore her and after a few letters she will soon run off.

Nobody has judged you. I bet you 100% that even the security guards have forgotten about you by now. Move on with your life and ignore jackies silly attempts to get money from you. We'll be here whenever you need any advice or reassurance.

One thing to remember, is EVERYONE makes mistakes. Thats just life. You are genuinely remorseful for it, and Primark and the police have already dealt with you and understood your condition. Its done, over, finished with
