I don't think this is a stitch-up at first glance - seems more like pre-case warm-up banter between the parties, being stirred up by the media, perhaps in the course of an interview etc. I have heard elsewhere about LTSB making compromising noises.

 

Personally I would say this affects us not one bit. Keep going :D

Hope you hear something today either by postie or from ringing bank, seems they all like to drag their heels , not bothered about us , the ones who have to wait till they can be bothered to get off their bums to get things done.

 

Just read that link. Dont know what to make of it to be honest. For the most part it seems to me like its a contradiction in terms. i must have got it wrong somewhere along the way as I was under the impression that the test case was to assertain wether the charges were "fair" to the consumer and that the OFT were on our side, trying to get these charges lowered to a more acceptable amount.

Now I read that the test case is to decide if the OFT has the power to rule that fees are unfair. I thought that the banks were being made to show proof that it does actually cost them £30-£39 that the charge us . Am I missing the point completely?

They say they are looking out for the best outcome for the consumer , and yet they also say that they "agree with part of the banks argument", yet reading further on they say " We still beleive the charges are unfair, even if they are charges for a service".

 

Im afraid it going right over my head now. On one hand the charges are now bringing in between £2-£3.5bn for banks but when and IF banks charge a proposed annual charge to customers of £300 it would generate an extra £20bn for banks,!

Sorry, whats going on? Seems to me the banks are on a win win situation here.

As I say all going over my head. Something doesnt seem right to me, cant get my head round it all. Ill have another try later when Im not so tired, ha ha.

So are they now saying that if people go over then its our own fault cause we knew we would incur charges but it was our choice.

Is this what they are going to justify the still horrendous charges with.

Hmm... yes I saw that article too - and it had me puzzled. Unless they were referring to the fact that although you have a cleared balance showing, there may be 'pipeline' items not showing that might push you over your limit - I've never had a bank yet that would let me withdraw money via ATM over my agreed overdraft...
