Given all the rising costs of utilities I thought that it would be good to share a low-cost solution for calling abroad. Like many of you, I am sure, you'll have friends and families and indeed business acquaintances in far flung places and if you want a cheap rate option you should try to call..... 08448618686 and then the operator will tell you how much it will cost per minute. I call Australia frequently and use this route as it costs me 1p per minute. All that you need to do after the operator has told you the cost is to dial the number in what ever country followed by "#"

 

Does anyone know of a cheaper route?

I've gone to Talk Talk as one of the perks is I can call friends and family in Italy, US and New Zealand at local rates.

Anybody wanting to phone abroad using a mobile phone might wah#nt to consider a Mobile World sim card from Carphone Warehouse.

I use a 'TALKDIRECT' "phone card, available from newsagents. I call America for 1/2 pence per minute. It calls many other countries too, but, as knowing nobody there, haven't tried it out.

I am also with talk talk and calls to Australia are completely free.

 

I also have a new package with Tmobile that gives me 60 free mins to Oz, landlines and mobiles.
