I sucessfully won against smile about 3 months ago :) the problem is that i have just logged on to my account which happens to be a smilemore account which you have to pay for and my automatic £500 overdraft facility has been removed without any contact from Smile either by a letter, PM in my account or e-mail can they get away with doing this?

Now all my DD's and SO's won't go through because im skint :-x and im over my limit of £0.00 so no doubt the charges will start rolling in again!

PLEASE HELP!!!

That happened to me a few months ago and when I rang them up to find out what was happening I was told that sometimes a year after the overdraft is set it cancels itself (I think it was longer than a year in my case but I didn't argue). She just put it straight back on and I wasn't charged.

Ring them up and ask them what's happening as even if they have removed it deliberately, they have to tell you that they're doing it.

Also, I think Smile advertise their bank account with a £500 overdraft so if they are not offering that to you it's false advertising and Trading Standards ought to know (and the Financial Ombudsman!).

Give them a call and ask them what's going on. You have nothing to lose:)

WOW. I got an email from Smile a couple of days ago saying they have renewed my overdraft of £1020 on my SmileMore account for a further year. I will ensure I keep this email just in case Smile decide to revoke my overdraft once they realise I am claiming fees from them!!!

And so they've done it again - a direct debit bounced for £3.47  At least this time they had the courtesy to tell me. So, direct debits cancelled, and I've only just contacted everyone to apologise for them doing that before.

Ach well, switching my Bank and these muppets can take a run and jump.

The gloves are off and I'm reclaiming my charges from them. As the final line of my secure message said, "Ethical bank? See you under the Trade Misdescriptions Act".

And they've since asked for the return of my card, cheque book, etc despite knowing that £1900 pay is going into my account on Friday. To say that this lot are idiotis is an understatement. They have no interest in communicating with their customers at all. A total disgrace to banking - and that's saying something.

How I get my money out of my account on Friday I don't know - I suppose go along to their only branch in Scotland (which is 50 miles from home) and ask for it all to be taken out! :-| What a lovely way to spend payday.

mine for 2,000 (student)has just been cancelled and they want the cheque book and card back, I assume I now do a means test form and offer them 1 pound a week as I'm still a student. I have claimed back once and plan to make another claim but this will only bring it down by about 150.00 pounds.

overdrafts are not controlled by consumer credit are they?

Is it a standard letter or message you've received about that? If so, a phone call and letter may be successful in getting it reinstated. I was using my account as my wages account which had £2,000 going into it eveyr 4 weeks, yet they still cancelled my direct debits, overdraft, etc! Yet, when I paid nearly £2,000 cheque in, suddenly they reinstated the overdraft, but not the direct debits.

Their attitude throughout the whole thing was abyssmal. No emails, letters, anything telling me that the overdraft and direct debits were being cancelled until the deed had been done and my mortgage d/d and car loan d/d had bounced leaving me with further charges!!!

I'm taking the money they have now reimbursed me in charges and closing the account. The sad thing is that I very much believe in ethical banking and wanted to be part of an organisation with those principles. Unfortunately I found them to be a very unethical organisation without principles.
