I don't think the Sunaks are going to have a good weekend, are they?

 

After the tax trusts there"s also the question of what the IRS are going to pick up on and want to talk to them about because of them having green cards until pretty recently. A friend worked for an American owned multinational and says the IRS were really tough about pursuing tax they thought was due, even with people who went back to Europe.

 

I really can't understand how it's OK to be chancellor and hold a US green card for 16 months during that time while promising to live in the US forever and pay tax on your worldwide income.

So why isn't the gov making it very very beneficial to have solar panels put on every suitable roof?

- perhaps a system where its installed for free, the freeholder owns it - the first 5 years electricity goes into the grid and the gov (taxpayer) gets the credit to pay back the installation costs  .. from then on it reduces the properties bills ..

 

the sort of capital investment that pays - rather than just short term profit to pals for nowt

 

(thats a summary as we know most people dont read more than a few lines)

Ok - how about the main profiteering energy companies are made to pay for (and quality assure) the solar installations in lieu of a windfall tax, for which they get the half the electricity generated for the next 5 years (or they credit the bill with 50% of the households unit cost for whats generated - they are getting the installation sites rent free) while they manage a transition to greener local energy .... then its the leaseholders

- they will get smart meters rolled out as part of it too - likely to require them

Bear in mind TJ that unless you have a battery back up charged from the panels and a trip to cut the link to main and allow the battery to then power the house via a suitable inverter in event of power cut, the power goes off in an outage even if panels generating.  Thats what an installer told me.

Too True HB - which is why the mention of smart meters (meaning smart management/control system)

- but trying to keep it quite simple. Batteries could add quite significantly to the implementation costs but possible no reason why it shouldn'y be available as an option

 

Put Martin Lewis in overall management oversight with veto and no none disclosure so the populists dont just use it as another rip-off

1, Why was it a 'secret' to be 'leaked', apart from all his denials?

Yes, you wonder what Sunak's up to and the timing is interesting. A lot of people think he's blown his chance of being PM, so could he consider going back to the US?

 

That Marion lady is a serious journo and I'd say it's certainly a possiblity that Le Pen could win enough votes, although I haven't seen any polls saying what people might do in the second round. It's important for Macron to step up now and persuade people he's worth voting for in two weeks' time - and not just to keep Le Pen out.

 

Some of the losing candidates have advised their followers to vote for Macron and the left wing man Melenchon said not to vote for Le Pen. He didn't seem able to bring himself to say to vote for Macron though and abstentions may not help. Most of the other candidates seem to think Le Pen is a bad choice, apart from Zemmour of course, who got 7% of the vote and made a 'victory' speech. He's recommended his followers to vote for her.

... Now that its ministerial interests' rather than 'standards' theres only the independent bit which clashes with the reality of the English used.

Surely that should be:    Boris Johnsons'  'independent' adviser on ministerial interests.

If I had to be investigated as a minister, I'd probably want Lord Geidt as well.

 

I wonder what the leak inquiry will find. Reading yesterday's comments, a lot of them aren't ruling out that Johnson or no10 were involved and the timing was very political.

 

It's worrying that they're saying it's a criminal offence to reveal someone's tax status, although someone did say they thought that might only apply to HMRC employees.

 

Personally I think that kind of thing should be in the public domain for anyone becoming an MP because of the potential conflicts of interest. I see Javid has said he was a non-dom as well now, although Jolyon Maugham thinks he may have underplayed the length of time it lasted.

That the inquiry will not look at the simple facts that these tax havens shouldn't exist as a mechanism for 'not un-legal' tax evasion is the real issue.

and I thought the fines/penalties rose exponentially when repeated?

* Unlawfully prorogued parliament

* Repeated false statements in parliament - aka lying - confirmed as lying as uncorrected (x a couple of dozen at least)

* At least a couple of financial fiddles/inappropriate holiday gratuities etc

- some corrected after being caught (its OK Judge, I'll give the car back i stole - alls good - jog on and bye bye)

* Breaching his own lockdown rules

 

I'm sure I've missed dozens and dozens

Nobody's letting on the number of people being fined compared with the number of fines being issued.

Image if lucy donner poppy smith on the estate had thrown 100 person parties and held regular drinks every friday at her semi garden?

Ordinary people at the time were being threatened for simply talking to neighbors over a fence

Forcing a by-election in a safe Tory seat is possibly all hes got left to repay Johnson for the 'leaks'

... and of course, the Tories winning the safe seat would see Johnson claiming it shows support for himself.

 

Looks like the only alternative for sunak is under Johnsons thrall.
