are you using a flat screen. then you need to be on 1280 x 1024

When you were on the Screen Resolution did it have a size with (recommended) if so click on that recommended size and see

Check your devices ( VGA adaptor Graphics Card) check if the driver is up to date or even remove the adaptor and reinstall it.

You have to have one........Control panel...Hardware and Sound..Device Manager......Display Adapters

Try connecting another monitor...if your adapter is correct and your settings/display are correct.....not much more you can do.

is it a widescreen flat panel, or an old one?

the usual default res for a square one is what i posted, even on older ones like mine. but even at yr res it shld fill the screen.

do you have any sidebar/gadgets enabled, if so disable any. see if that helps.

do not have another monitor, it is a flat screen one and no Ford all got on my desktop at the side is the recycle bin symbol, printer symbol etc

I tried the screen size that you suggested Ford but the writing was far too small to read so gone back to size it was

so you have a Flat Screen Monitor using Display setting 1024x768, I assume it's a 14-15 inch monitor?

 

Now does the monitor have any buttons on it to adjust settings? (my own flat screen monitor has settings buttons on the side for adjusting the screen display)

the Monitor is a Acer, resolution atm is 1024 x 768, screen size is : 19 inches

Ah right for a screen resolution for a 17-19 inch monitor try 1280 x 1024 and see if that works.

Absolutely.

 

Would you let one of the respected regulars who is a geek in, onto your machine remotely, by a VNC package such as TeamViewer, so they can see it, fix it, and post here what the problem was (& the cure!)?

 

 

Likely (given the scenario, sudden change associated with grandchild using machine) it is a settings issue.

TeamViewer will allow someone snowdragon trusts to

a) connect remotely

b) see what is going on remotely

c) if they need to get snowdragon to describe things or physically change things on the monitor, both snowdragon and the "remote support tech" can type instructions / descriptions in text boxes for the other to see!

 

Just remember : only one of you move the mouse at any time, or "mouse battles" may ensue!

Tried that Stu, the writing is really small, the 1024 x 768 I can see the writing ok

Ok my bad see you tried this screen size and didn't work.

 

Just a suggestion to try is dragging the screen to where you want it by clicking on the bottom part of the screen that needs adjusted with your mouse (keeping the Alt key pressed at the same time) and drag the screen to where you want it.

 

Something to try.
