Growing numbers of motorists are having their cars clamped and towed away because of confusion over tax disc changes.

New figures published a year after the tax disc was scrapped suggest that drivers are still struggling to adjust to the new electronic system.

The disc was an obvious reminder.

It has now gone and we think people might be forgetting

The number of vehicles being clamped or impounded has leapt from about 5,500 a month under the old system to more than 8,000 a month. This hit a peak of 10,554 in July.

The increase has been put down to confusion over new rules regarding transfer of ownership which came in at the same time that tax discs were scrapped after 93 years.

So their plan on how to get more money out of the motorist seems to be working

The trouble is that putting everything online or on computer databases, forgets that not everyone is either computer literate or efficient.

In some ways the world was much simpler, before the internet was invented. Technology may have actually increased the costs of living and made life more complicated.

Given how easy it appears for crooks and terrorists to hack into databases, not sure putting life online is secure either.

Government are using the technology to save money, but without investing in processes which might help those who have difficulty adapting. They should have had a huge campaign explaining the change and to have asked for feedback.

We could do with some help from you.
