Should a solicitor put key advice in writing to a client, so that it's on record for future reference?

Hello there.

The immediate reaction would be that they should, but please tell us more about what sort of legal advice you had and what the problem is. The guys will be able to give you a considered answer then.

A solicitor must keep adequate and accurate records of their dealings with clients.

Ideally yes. But it doesn't have to be, advice can be delivered orally. If important advice is delivered orally the solicitor should keep an attendance note recording the advice given.
