I defaulted on a credit agreement on 22/06/2007, according to my credit report.

The amount is £996,

although I honestly do not know what the debt is for.

I have moved around a lot over the years, and

three weeks ago I received a telephone call from Marlin Financial.

I advised them I was unaware of any debt and stated they must have the wrong person.

They said they would contact their clients.

I joined Equifax to monitor credit rating etc and was notified by them that Marlin have updated my address details, showing the default at my current address.

As a result of this, my credit score decreased quite substantially.

The debt is due to drop of my report on the 22nd of this month and I'm wondering what I should do- if anything.

I have never received any letters from them as yet,

and think that the debt is statue barred as its almost six years from the default date.

I live in Scotland, and am worried that Marlin mess up my credit report.

Any advice about what to do will be greatly appreciated.

Also, can I insist that their searches on my credit report be removed due to the length of time which has passed

- it appears they performed a search in 2009 and 2011

- or will all reference to them disappear after 22/06/13.

Thanks in advance

Jb

Oh, ok...thanks dpick.

So, any suggestions on what I should do? Should I just ignore Marlins interest in me until default drops off credit report? I'm worried that they are starting a case against me as we speak!

Thats great havinastella, thanks. Unfortunately I do not even have an acc. no. or reference number though. When they called a few weeks back, I feel as though they just wanted to confirm my identity.

Hi,

When was the last time you acknowledged this debt or made any payment towards it, if over 5 years then it will be Statute Barred, though the default will not drop off your file until the 6 year anniversary.

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

forget about the debt

as morry says

the default and the whole account will vanish on the defaults 6th birthday

ignore marlins...dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

The 6th anniversary is the 22nd...I have never acknowledged this debt or even been in touch with them since this alleged debt was in default on 22/06/07

Thanks a lot for your expertise guys, very much appreciated.

If there are any further developments, I will keep you all posted.

Cheers,

Jb
