I find it really disgraceful that this is meant to be a place where people come for advice and help with Payday Loans and as soon as they come in here there is a big advertised banner for Payday Loans at the top of the page.

Is there nowhere safe from these bloody companies!

I think you will find that these are 'Associated' ads that pop up automatically if you are not signed in.

Goggle places ads on the same page as the subject details, so for instance, sport ads on football pages.

As these forums are http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=53600973 etc, the adverts will be of the same.

I'm 100% sure that Marc does not want them to be associated with CAG!

You'd have to very deep pockets to run a forum of this size without some form of income whether it be subscription, donation or advertising.

Subscription was ruled out from the start, donations are down to a mere trickle which basically leaves advertising, unless, of course, you are volunteering to finance it yourself.

Actually deep pockets is a myth... with the price of bandwidth in a data centre and the cost of rack space, it runs into a few hundred a month and not a few thousand. Couple that in with a few good volunteers who are technical and that is your base line. Obviously I am neglecting costs such as accountancy, etc, but you get the gist.

Even assuming you are right, (which I don't believe), how exactly are you proposing CAG raises 'a few hundred amonth' without subs, donations or advertising

Just the issue that most people seem to have is the selection of ads. But then again, it seems that the other non-financial ads may not be as lucrative as the ones we are seeing.

AIUI CAG has no control over what adverts Google places and as a registered logged-on user I'm not seeing any ads apart from CAG ones for various books. Where are the ones you're seeing.

also remember some ads are displayed going by your browsing history....

so if

you continually browsing betting sites yours ads will be betting

you continually browse car sites, your ads will relate to cars

etc

I have NEVER seen any dodgy ads on CAG - so I guess it must be down to CAGGERs' own browsing profiles what comes up?

I think the OP may have had his judgement coloured by a recent poster with dubious motives who now seems to have crawled back under his stone?

Please be assured 99.9999999% of CAGGERs only have YOUR best interests at heart!

I have saved over £50k which would still be owed to various sharks (and still accruing interest at about 30% pa - which would have resulted in both bankruptcy and my house being repossessed) if I had not got great advice from CAG.

Good luck in your own situations!

BD
