Hi, have recently had a nasty letter from MH regarding an old Aktiv Kapital account. Have just sent them standard letter requesting copy of credit agreement. However, we have also been getting phone calls regularly, many with the number withheld. One time, the number called was 01536546300, which I have traced to MH. What I cannot work out is that we are ex-directory and do not give out our number to anyone. My questions are:

• Can I find out where MH go my number from?
  
• Are they allowed to withhold their number if they contact me (can't prove that is them for sure)

Well it's likely that your number was passed to them from the origional creditor or it is registered on your credit file.

 

You can stop their phone calls by sending them the harrassment by telephone letter http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/content.php?493-Harassment-by-telephone-response-letter . If they call after that then report them to the police. Log all their calls.

 

If you can afford it, then buy a truecall and never have to speak to a DCA again.

I would be sending them a 'prove it' letter as well as the phone harassment letter. These are all HERE

 

Make sure all letters go by recorded delivery or if you can't afford it, get a certificate of posting from the post office.

Muckhall, says it all really, sad sorry deluded fools, trying to earn a living from other peoples misery, how sad sorry and shallow do you have to be to work for such a corrupt industry as this?

Ex directory does not mean that your number can't be sourced, it merely means that it is not 'printed' in the phone book, you should ask your phone provider to block your CLI.

Have had the same experience with MH - I have True Call but turned it off for a while as I thought all was good, then out of the blue they appeared - I too am ex-D and VERY careful who has my number. So the True Call has been ON ever since.

 

The seem to be 'acting for' AK alot at the moment, I have 2 SB Accounts - SB in 2004 that they are actively chasing, SB letters x 2 on each account went to AK so they just got their tame sewer rats to hassle me now!

Report them to Alan Stewart at East Ayrshire Trading Standards, they are under investigation by him for misleading contact and threatening what they can't do.

MH specialise in SB or nearly SB debts. The first thing is send a Prove It letter. If they fail to respond to that then you have nothing more to say to them until they do. If they do respond CCA. My money would say they won't be able to produce anything remotely enforceable.
