Hi,

I have a capital one credit card and owe £157, Back in March it was £85 balance.

On the same day my new statement was due I noticed the minimum payment of £5 didn't go through so I phoned them the same day and said I would like to make the minimum payment as I noticed it didn't go through the woman said it was too late and I now need to pay something like £29 as I had incurred the same day a £12 charge and another charge of £12 for going over my £100 limit due to the £12 charge knocking me over, I was mad so I said I won't pay it because I find it unfair that I am also getting charged for going over my limit because of there charge going on.

I have left it and not paid anything, everytime they have phoned i have said I will pay the minimum payment but only after the charges have been taken off to which they decline the offer.

I have noticed that it has now grown to £157 what is the best action to take?

Best

Ade.

Was it a case of paying at the bank on time but not being credited to your credit card account on time ?

Welcome to the site.

First thing to learn is dont deal by phone-keep things in writing and demand they do the same.

Have you had previous charges ?

Maybe worth considering taking action to get them ALL back.

Thanks for replying,

The money was supposed to leave my account on the 6th but it didn't, when I looked on the 13th when my capitalone statement was due to be generated I made the call then.

I should also note that I lost my job in December last year and have PPI but didn't want to use it as I would lose that card.

Ade-do you have previous statements-or access to them to get a list of the other charges ?

I said to them that I am willing to pay the £5 on the day the new statement was due to be generated and they said its too late you now have to pay £29, they declined the offer of £5 and so I didn't make the payment as I was mad about the charges.

The point I am trying to get to is did you make a payment and was it on time ?

Hi,

I guess no i didn't but I did offer on the last day before my statement.

At the beginning you stated that the minimum amount had'nt gone through, which led me to believe it may have been an admin error by the bank either at where you made payment or an admin error by the credit card company..

If on the other hand you had failed to make a minimum payment for what ever reason, then that would be why they had charged you twelve pounds late payment fee..

On to the question of would I think you was being awkward then my personal opinion is no and I believe you are within your rights to question this late payment fee as well as other charges you may feel to be unjust..

Not Enough Funds DD

The other thing you might consider in the furture is if funds are likely not to be in the bank to pay direct debits then an alternative way to pay might be an idea to look at as most banks seem to charge a fee as well if a third party attempts to claim money from a direct debit set up and there is insufficent funds to do so..

Hi,

Sorry for not being clear enough, I do feel the charges were unfair at the time and I'm glad someone agrees.

What action can I take? I have offered to make the minimum payment only if the charges are taken off.

What can I do to get these charges taken off?

Having looked at my statement today, it is now £183 it has nearly doubled my balance since march.

Thanks

Ade.
