Hi,

I sent a letter of appropriation on behalf of my mother who is a 66 year old pensioner on basic state pension with £100 of charges due to come out on 11th June, the HSBC have completely ignored the request and sent no response whatsoever.

What is the next course of action as it is clear a sate pensione cannot afford £100

thanks

In most circumstances it is wise to open a basic bank account with another bank and direct income to the new account.

That way you can dispute the issue with the original bank and they have no access to funds.

The bank has today taken £100 charges from the account leaving me £350 o/d obviously completely ignoring the letter, I think people on the site may have got this wrong as the banks don't seem to have to comply with this letter.

Hi themadcap

I think it would be worthwhile putting your complaint to the FOS with all

the details.

our complaints procedure and how to complain

The Consumer Forums - Right of Appropriation - Stop the bank from taking your money-

I've had a quick scan of the web, the following might help:-

The telephone number is 0845 6006423 and is available Monday to Friday - 08:00 to 18:00.

HSBC address:

The Service Quality Team

HSBC Bank plc

Arlington Business Centre

Millshaw Park Lane

LEEDS

LS11 0PP

What you could do is get the local bank to fax it to the correct department whilst your there, handing it in through internal mail could see your letter go around the houses.

Yes I agree people on here seem to be very confused about this, in my experience they pay it no attention whatsoever

Hi themadcap.

I sent a LOA to H-S-B-C and they just waffled about winning the court case last year. It's all they seem able to write and talk about these days.

I have just posted them a letter asking them why they do not have to respect the law, and I have contacted the FOS asking them what to do. We'll see where it goes...

I started a thread here

Good luck!
