Well they shouldn't, according to the Banking Code Standards Boards and the FSA, but that probably wouldn't stop them trying.

 

A S.A.R. is simply a request for information, so I don't think it should be perceived as initiating a dispute, although Nationwide might well see it as such (very touchy!). The preliminary approach letter though, certainly kicks off the dispute process.

 

Why do you ask, have Nationwide said or done something to worry you?

Thanks Elsinore, Nationwide haven't done anything yet (on friends account) we just wanted to be able to play ball when they threaten to close the account down. The claim is likely to be a biggy so were expecting it! thanks again.
