Hi dudes,

Have a Toshiba 300D Laptop, just over a year old. The HDD has decided to fail on me. I can load up distro cd to a desktop so I know it's the HDD. Also, I tried slaving the HDD to my Desktop PC - Fails to be recognized.

This laptop was aquired through an insurance claim for another Laptop, so do not have a retailer to contact - My insurance company provided the supplier source.

My question is - HDDs these days have a 5 year warranty on them if you buy a HDD on its own. How do I stand in this case.

What course of action would anybody suggest. (I could probably get it replaced for £40.00 and it would be twice the capacity, but funds are short on the ground, Also, the laptop may have killed the hdd in someway)

Regards

Sharpman

I'm sure it will stand, as I did pay for it, although the amount was for the excess. This money was paid to the suplier. The supplier sells goods to the public as well, not just insurance companys.

Seems to me that the insurer is indeed the de facto retailer, i.e. the supplier, so you should get back to them in the first instance.

A manufacturer may or may not be willing assist but they'd usually want to know who supplied their product.
