Hi.

I've been reading this thread I signed up with Advent 09.I am due to pay £5,000 before march. or debt will become £10,000+

Don't know where to start. I phoned Consumer Direct this morning and they said contact Barclay's Partner finance but I'd really like to know my rights before I shoot myself in the foot.

CD also said that as there's been 1year of the course forwarded then that will have to be paid for. I've not started to pay anything yet but can anyone advise best way to go.

Don't fancy paying for nothing as I've recieved very little up till now.

 

Got a letter from Barclay's saying ...We have been notified that Advent Consulting Ltd have ceased to trade. I can confirm, however that we are currently in the process of sourcing an alternative provider to complete your course.

Please don't worry as you are not required to do anything at this stage. we will contact you shortly to confirm details of your new training provider. in the meantime your finance agreement will continue as normal.

 

Surely they can't just palm us off like that we entered a contract with Advent and Finance was arranged albeit with Barclays but was arranged through advent.

Advent are now defunct so I think Barclays greivance is with Advent and not with the students. But get the feeling they're not going to give up trying to get us all to keep paying which imo is totally unacceptable.

I will seek legal advice and have read about NOT to cancel DD that's been set up What should I do? Thanks any help appreciated

If you have not paid anything (or even if you have), you should inform the bank that with immediate effect, you are suspending payments and the agreement is in abeyence until the Official Receiver or Administrator has sorted it out and you have reasearched the reliability and quality of tuition that will be offered by the company (if any), notified to you as taking over.

 

You really shouldn't pay anything as the bank paid Advent and not you. Stop your direct debit now.

 

Thank you so much for that advice, That's what I couldn't get my head round all that money that they want me to pay and they never gave me any money.

By the same token people who've paid in advance should be refunded now as the contract must be void.

Hi just an observation but do any of you think you may have been missold this course. I notice at the bottom of a letter from Advent they have a line of accredations Pearson Vue, Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, CompTIA, Institute of IT Training Gold Standard accredited Training Provider.

Now I did a couple searches on Microsoft partner list and Advent didn't show up neither did they on Institute of IT Training Gold Standard yet along the bottom of the letter about enrolment from Advent they are making it appear as though they have been verified by those companies.

Just a thought but if they have misled us then there is a case for everyone

Totally agree with you I have an appointment on thursday with a lawyer.

If we signed a contract with a company and that company no longer is trading then surely the contract is null in void. Barclays cannot expect to just replace with another provider as we would all have to agree to sign up with another company which is totally unacceptable. If we all object to this suggestion then I don't see how Barclays can Force someone to do as they say, we must be allowed to choose for ourselves who and where we pay our money there is something seriously wrong with all of this it's like Barclays are in on it

People who paid Advent direct still have rights and they should get advice as to who can help them I'd go to the Police if all else fails.

BPF well I'll let you know after I consult my lawyer there has been a breech of contract definately and I'll not feel too sorry for Barclay's 48million

I Am Very Confused @ 7pm Tonite I Had A Missed Call On My Phone From Advent - 01562887777, They Did Not Leave A Message, When I Called Back It Just Said That We Have No Attendants Available Now!!! Wtf Is Going On, Has Anyone Else Had The Same?? Also how the hell am i getting calls from them if there offices have been cleared out??

 

That's strange bout phone calls in fact the whole set up's strange is the list you posted new companies or

companies that are in liquidation?

I don't mean your list is strange lol i mean I've checked companies house and Advent have numerous company names and when they started these co.'s

Stupid question but I'm confused now. If Advent changed their name in December 07 which name should we be claiming against? Advent Computer Training Ltd, Consulting etc...

 

sunegtheoverlord...what was the other company called?

 

Btw I'm in exactly the same situation as you and haven't found out who the insolvency practitioner is yet either.

Tried phoning these accountants to find out if they're dealing with it oundle office said phone peterborough I've since been on hold there for ages they took my number to phone me back let you know what happens if they do, wouldn't give anything away

Bulley Davey accountants just called me back they said they have just registered a new company by the name of Advent Consulting Ltd a one man company who has just newly formed this company and they have had quite a few calls enquiring about Advent but apparantly this new co. has not started trading yet.

So how's that for confusing?

I am in the same situation as everyone else very p***** been going through everyones comments which are helping but I had a financial agreement which was done through Advent which are called Anglo Capital but I am having problems trying to find out who they are a can't find them listed any where does anyone know who they are and have they a telephone number for them.

Just google Anglo Capital ltd follow the links there's an interesting 1 saying

access 2 Trade careers is a trading name of anglo capital and they're an Israeli finance co. but don't know if it's right

And Barclays will definately be insured against Advent going into liquidation
