If the £679 includes the VAT then this is an exceptional result and makes me think VW are waking up to the problem. Take the offer. Make sure it is a new head though and not a repaired head. If it's plus the VAT then ask for a breakdown of the charges and let me know.

Here Here Heliosuk. Your post 108 just about sums it up. The Shark's warranty will bear STRICT scrutiny. As for the Clark service, well that also must be a questionable subject in light of my own experience. They claimed to have done the service as per "Auto Data", which misses out important features stipulated by Citroen, in my case.

When "Sir"( ha ha) Arnold pops his clogs, i think his epitaph should read "There is nothing wrong with your car", which seems to be the standard slogan of his service departments.

The initial complaint was a misfire, which i would have expected a first year apprentice to detect. The cause of a misfire needs a little more investigation but is not generally "Rocket Science".

Even although head problems with the Polo engine are known, it beggars belief that they should manifest themselves at such a low milage.

BTW- to the best of my knowledge Clark does not hold a VW franchise---I wonder why?

You're right there again Scania. Clarks workshop philosophy is it the computer says it's ok it is and stuff the customer. They forget about going back to basics or even going to the next step to verify what the computer is saying is correct. It's unbelievable really.

Anyway, from the PM's I think there is sufficient evidence to go after VW and Clarks. VW I think will be pretty straight forward but Clarks are also out of order here in that they might have ruined the potential resale value of a car but also might have sold a warranty that is useless, totally uneccessary.

Lots to cover on this one but a bit more straightforward than the Picasso problem.

Heliosuk, i know very little of VW engines but what is the cause of burnt valves on some of these cars? I always thought that burnt valves were a result of wrong fuelling or timing.

I would dearly like to see Arnold Clarks warranty and the reason given for refusing repair under same. All warranties i have seen cover all major components. The engine warranty covers block, crankshaft pistons and ALL components within the cylinder head unit--so why can they refuse this one. (cost of repair would compromise their God-PROFIT????)

If after close scrutiny of the T&C's of the warranty, the OP feels he was duped into taking this warranty, i would strongly suggest that he reports this to Mr. N. Coltart of Glasgow TS with a copy to Mr. G. Kenton of the OFT. Was he mis-sold the warranty?

ARNOLD SHARK--NEVER AGAIN

Sam, at one time clark's csm did in fact post on the CAG site. His name is Alisdair Craig and he would sometimes respond to customers with relatively minor complaints. He has not been heard of for some time though, which may be because we have not had any new complaints with AC in the title, as indeed is the case in this topic. There are of course other reasons why he has gone to ground.

Wouldn't it be interesting if we were to get a customer service rep from AC to come on like Car Craft have!

I seem to recall that they have been sanctioned and in the past were active.

Will look into it and email them to see if it is something they are still wanting to be doing.

As per my post #140, what excuse has clark given for not honouring their warranty?????? IMHO, although a bitter pill to swallow, i would try and explain to VW about clarks reputation and ask them to deliver parts to a VW retailer as near you as possible for them to undertake repair. I appreciate that this would entail the costs of transporting car to such a dealer. OR If car is drivable don't worry about MOT---just book it into same garage if they are MOT registered.

Oh thats fair enough then.

But monitoring is the operative word here....that is to say that active engagement would be much more welcome.

Still-I guess we should be grateful for your post above which adds your grand total to 8 since August 2010 !
