Hi, I wonder if you could help. I had unpaid parking tickets. It went to the bailiffs and I made a regular repayment with them. Now I decided to pay the outsdanding 4 tickets (excluding the bailiff fees) directly to the council. They accepted it. Now the bailiffs want more than 100 pounds but have not be specific what for. What do I have to do now? Some fees are not justified and wrong so I am not willing to pay them. Any suggestions on how to stop them?

Just say there is no debt and everything is settled.

The law that prescribed bailiffs fees for unpaid parking tickets is Schedule 1 of the Enforcement of Road Traffic Debts (Certificated Bailiffs)(Amended 2003) Regulations 1993. Generally its £28 and £11.20 for a letter.

If a bailiff tries charging you with hundreds of pounds then ask the bailiff which court issued his certificate. Threaten him with a Form 4 to be sent to his certificating court and you also will report him for committing offences under S2 of the Fraud Act 2006 by charging unlawful fees.
