Cabot Financial + barclycard

So today or possibly yesterday my father gets a letter in the post from Cabot Financial about some barclycard credit card that he owes £600 on but they'll accept £300 odd. I don't know where they get this information because he doesn't own a barclycard and couldn't because of his credit rating.

 

Any advice on Cabot Financial and what he could do to find out more about this credit card he supposidly owes money to as we don't want to pay any money to something we don't know anything about.

Send Cabot this 'prove it' letter, see what they come back with.

 

 

Dear Sir/Madam

 

Account no:

 

You have contacted me/us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by myself/ourselves.

 

I/we would point out that I/we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to (insert company name).

 

I am/we are familiar with the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance which states that it unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.

 

I/we would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.

 

Furthermore ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.

 

I/we would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above account unless you can provide evidence as to my/our liability for the debt in question.

 

I/we await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed. Otherwise I will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.

 

I/we look forward to your reply.

Cheers for the reply.

 

Will change the letter to suit and see what they say because my father knows nothing about the credit card he supoosidly had with barclycard in which the cabot letter refers to and he can't see how anyone let alone himself could get a credit card in his name with what i assume is not a very good credit rating he has.

They are more than likely just chancing their arm, I received letters similar addressed to me but with different forename.

 

I think the person they were looking for probably stayed close to me, but they did not have an address so sent letters to people with the same surname, I also received phonecalls for the same person, I had to tell them three times to get on their bike, not had a call for ages.
