I have just started the ball rolling on this, but not sure if I will get anywhere with it.

I took out a loan in 1999 for £10000, and was sold a life insurance only PPI which was added as a single premium payment of £697. However, it was a joint loan but only my name is on the policy, I was talked into the PPI and made to feel that if I refused I would not get the loan

Unfortunately my circumstances changed in 2001 and I was forced into a DMP beginning 2002 which is still ongoing. So effectively I am still paying out for the PPI all these years later, as it was not cancelled or part refunded!! I currently have £921 outstanding on this loan, including the insurance.

I rang A&L yesterday and a very polite lady informed me that they will look into my case and send me "some paperwork". So now I wait :)

I have followed up my call with a letter explaining why I felt is was a missell, as she didn't ask me over the 'phone.

Does anyone have any views on whether I even have a case, and if I do what I might be entitled to claim back?

Well had my first response. Not what I expected. After 5 years on a debt management plan which pays the largest chunk to them, and they have always been happy with, they send me a letter informing me that I am behind with my repayments (Duh!!) and that they may consider issuing a default notice.

I hope this is just a co-incidence, otherwise I could argue a little bit of economic blackmail is taking place here:mad:. At the moment I am not going to respond to this letter I will just wait and see what they do now.

Hello Jd,

Well that was not really a nice gesture of goodwill and fair business practice. They mis-sell you ppi, and because this added to your indebtness, you were unable to maintain the amounts they required, and now because you have made an inquiry as to the ppi, they may default you:rolleyes:

Have they not defaulted you already, I would be checking up on this one with the credit reference agencies. Normally after 3 reduced payments they default you anyway.

Do you know your figures??? What was originally charged for the ppi and the ppi interest they applied?????

When was the ppi cancelled????? and if cancelled what was the rebate from it????

I would be taking control of this and asking them a few questions:D

FSA fines Alliance and Leicester £7 million over PPI - Money News

HAVE WE ALL SEEN THIS !!!

"Alliance and Leicester has been fined £7 million for telephone advice given over the sale of payment protection insurance (PPI).

This is in regard to unsecured personal loans between January 14th 2005 and 31st December 2007.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) studied processes and phone calls and said customers may have been exposed to an unsuitable insurance policy.

David Bennett, group chief executive of Alliance and Leicester, apologised and said the organisation would write to every customer concerned so consumers need not take action.

He added that it had co-operated fully with the investigation and will also work with the FSA and independent accountants to put right any customer disadvantages.

The FSA said that Alliance and Leicester sold approximately 210,000 PPI policies at an average price of £1,265 but there was a "general failure by advisers" to give customers the details of the costs.

It also found that Alliance and Leicester had sought to sell PPI without properly considering whether customers needed it and did not make it clear enough that the policy was optional.

Margaret Cole, director of enforcement at the FSA, said: "The failings at Alliance and Leicester are the most serious we have found [regarding PPI]."

  • 1 month later...

Well A&L have made me an offer including interest. It will just pay off what I owe them and leave me clear finally. I wrote to accept and told them to use the money to clear my debt. I then cancelled my S/O to A&L. That was on 9th Dec.:)

Today I rang up to find out that they are backlogged and have not actioned my acceptance. I then had to phone their colleagues in Collections to advise them of my offer and acceptance letter. They have agreed to hold off "chasing me for payment" for 10 days, but told me it is up to me to follow this up, and ring the PPI guys to get this money paid. WTF!!!! Don't the A&L train their staff to communicate with each other. No wonder this country is financially going down the drain, when one department of a building society can't transfer money to another department of the same building society:evil::evil:
