I sent the template letter to citibank last week. Got a reply yesterday which basically state that their charges are not penalty charges and that if I am dissatisfied with customer service, I should get in touch with the ombusman. I intent to reply. They did not even attempt to address the issue and even mention that they would be investigating. At one stage, I was being charged £50 GBP in bank charges.

 

Oh yes, they said that they can justify the charges because it pays for administration associated with dealing with overcharge.

They want their cake and eat it. But we are going to take it away from them altogether :twisted:

just for the record, if the DPA letter authorises citibank to deduct £10 from one's account, then that is exactly what they do, with the statement annotation "copy statement fee"
