  6. The problem lies with the amounts banks charge for our errors. They claim they cover our costs, but how can it cost £25 to send a e-mail to tell me that I am 25p over my OD limit? If the banks charged me the actual cost, I'd be happy to accept the charges (probably about £2 at the most). Go on banks, play fair, and stop taking the p*ss...

Dave, how far did you get with them? The initial letter with the threat or the actual writ?
  8. Yes, you should know the total amount of charges, so you can claim for a specific amount. Read the FAQs and send out a DPA request for copies of your statements, then you can work it out!

Hi, I've also sent a letter to smile asking for my hard-earned cash back. In the meantime, I've had an e-mail to my account about their latest 'tariffs'. Maybe this is what they're referring to? Bri
  10. Not really. But in my own eccentric way I rather like the Halifax. They have, by and large, been pretty good to me. And! Their staff are still in the good old UK - Scotland actually.
  11. Thanks - Abbey National desplay an umbrella - do you think that will help? DLD
  12. I sent the template letter to citibank last week. Got a reply yesterday which basically state that their charges are not penalty charges and that if I am dissatisfied with customer service, I should get in touch with the ombusman. I intent to reply. They did not even attempt to address the issue and even mention that they would be investigating. At one stage, I was being charged £50 GBP in bank charges. Oh yes, they said that they can justify the charges because it pays for administration associated with dealing with overcharge.
  13. DP request sent to First Direct - does anyone have any idea of how long First Direct take to answer?
