Capquest want to know if I have a car.

Got a surprise call from Capquest tonight, had a few beers with a mate beforehand and so decided to let them have their 2 mins of glory before I shot them down in flames by quoting a few OFT guideines at them and that they weren't to ever call me ever again.

 

One of the daft questions they asked was "Do you own a car?" I do, but I told them didn't understand the question, and from that moment went into very vague mode. Especially when asked as to when I would be paying them and how much.

I then got the "we're recording this call sir" So temtation got too great,and went into a drunken rendition of the happy days theme tune asking 2 lines later if they could send me a recording of it. .....More threats followed....So I gave them the don't ever call me again line and all corresponence should be in writing from now on.

 

Gone bit off track now...oops.......

 

But does anyone know why a DCA would ask if you had a car?

 

Also be good if CAG could have a section where you could post mp3 files of amusing conversations you have recorded of DCA calls. I think this would be a help to people who are more nervous about DCA calls and reassure them there's nothing to be scared of and it can be quite fun really.

I suppose in many respects it is the only thing worth levying on - especially as very often it would be parked in the drive.

 

Unfortunately, with regard to your last point, mp3 file can be rather large and it would put too much strain on the server to allow uploads of such large files. Of course, that does not stop a user from uploading such files to one of the many file storage sites and posting a link.

May be worth trying it and see. Be interesting to hear other peoples experiences with dca's and also a good way of gatherering evidence of OFT breaches by DCA's. Especially when CAG starts selling the phone recording kits.

 

As for my car, I spend most of my time at my girlfriends house and when it is parked at home, it looks like it belongs to next doors lol. Would take it into a field and set fire to it before I would let a DCA get their hands on it (they would need to produce a few CCA's first lol). Not sure the owners club I'm a member of would be to happy about me torching a rally classic though.

I'm sure that asking about a car is simply a scare tactic. It's also extremely doubtful that they were recording the call.

How can they take your car without you defaulting on a CCJ, etc, first? Even then can they take a car if you need it for work or other vital things like taking kids to school, sick granny who lives in the middle of nowhere, etc? The debt Capquest claim I owe is fleabay and Pay-(no) Pal (of mine), account and nothing to do with car loans or finance, so I can't see how they can ask if I own a car or not is relevent.

 

Be interesing to see what they would say if I said yes I have a car, etc. Just to see what they say would happen to it. Am sure it would be a breach of OFT guidelines, like when they ask if you can borrow the money from friends or family, or get a loan from somewhere else so you can pay them.

Next time I call a dca, or most likely they call me after a visit to the pub. I will record it and post it on here.

 

You've just given me an idea. Alphageek. Might be a good idea to have a thread so peeps can post their best and most appropiate song recordings to the dca scumbags, so we all can have a good laugh. Most peeps looking on here are probably feeling a bit down in the dumps, so would be good if they could stumble on something that would make them laugh at a DCA's expense. Would also show them there's no reason to be frightened of them.

You are not under police caution or something! lol

If they phone you..you are entitled to say what you wish & just coz they are "recording the call" means diddly squat

I hope they do record calls. I'll be recording mine in the future. Just wondering what song to sing to them. When I decide, I'll do it and post it on here. (can't sing by the way so go and buy some ear plugs now lol)

If you decide you wish to talk aload of nonsensical gibberish down the phone to them then that is ur right to do so.

Just coz they are "recording the call" means sweet fa & like i said, you are not under any cautions etc..

If you want to watch happy days, it's on one of the freeview channels most weekdays. Two episodes an evening.

Can't remember which channel is either 35 five US or 36 five life. Early evening from 5pm onwards I think.

 

Got the theme tune as my moblie ringtone at the moment.

I would guess they do record some of the calls for training purposes - if they do any training...
